  • 230) The Power of Authenticity

In this episode, I speak with coach Hallie Avolio. Hallie believes it's time for us to live our F yes life and she knows how to help us achieve that.

In our conversation we talk about the downfalls of people-pleasing and hiding who we actually are, because it keeps us from creating and manifesting the life we truly desire.

Hallie and I also talk about the need to take action and move through the discomfort that comes with prioritizing ourselves sometimes and the challenges of setting boundaries that require consistent reinforcement.

The work Hallie and I do is life changing! I am sharing her social media links and the to her website here.

  • 228) Healing Tools with Cecily Longo

In this episode I speak with LMFT, certified Taropist, and EFT practitioner Cecily Longo. I met Cecily when I was speaking at the annual Women SCORE event last fall immediately after entering the room. She told me what she does and I said how would you like to do a little tapping on me now to help me calm my nerves before speaking. She took me up on that and I ended up feeling pretty calm and self-assured during my speech.

In this interview, Cecily explain what tapping is and how  beneficial it is. We also talk about the Tarot cards and how they can be used in therapy sessions (Taropy) or in other creative and fun ways. Cecily has the skills and expertise to collaborate with her clients to determine which tools are most appropriate for each client.

  • 227) A Personal Account of the Palisades Fire with Kirsten Ellis

In this episode I speak with a friend of mine, Kirsten Ellis, about her personal and painful experience fleeing the Pacific Palisades fire (PPF). Kirsten has spent her entire life in the  beautiful community of the Palisades and is now trying to come to terms with that fact that it was completely decimated and no longer exists as she knew it.

We also explore the mindset of native Californian's like Kirsten who have been facing the threat of fire their entire lives, because people who don't live in CA don't understand why us "crazy" people do. In addition, we broke down what went well and what was problematic with evacuations and even give some tips on preparing for the possibility of fires if you live in an area that is at risk.

I invited Kirsten to share her story on the podcast because I wanted to hear her account of the PP Fire, so that she can begin to make some sense out of all of it and process the magnitude of emotions she is experiencing as a result of it. It really takes a lot of courage to come on the podcast to share a story as painful as this one so kudos to Kirsten for her willingness to do that!

Human Design has improved my life in so many ways, but it takes time to learn how to embody your design.

Please don't get overwhelmed by trying to learn all the information out there and memorizing all your gates, etc, because that will take you down many rabbit holes (unless you are inspired!).

When Bee realized historians left her husband's name and his work from  the historical records of small pox eradication in Africa, she took it upon herself to gather all the information she needed to write a memoir of the time her family spent there and the challenges they faced. The book is called Vaccines & Bayonets: Fighting Small Pox in Africa Amid Tribalism, Terror, and the Cold War.  Here are the links to find out more about Bee and to purchase her book.

  • 224) Time to Get it Together!

In this episode I share strategies for navigating the frenzy of social media these days. There is so much fear, anger and negativity throughout almost every thread I read. We must learn how to manage our minds effectively so we can stay in leadership energy and have a ripple effect on the people around us.

I also talk about a podcast I recently listened to called the Hidden Brain. They did a Wellness Series 2.0 and in it an episode called When It's All to Much. The host, Shankar Vedantam, interviewed an educator and researcher named Sarah Jaquette Ray about the impact of overwhelm, hopelessness, and despair on student's in her class who were learning about climate change from her. I couldn't help but notice the similarity to how many American's are feeling right now about politics. I love what she concluded from her research and will give you a hint that it might have something to do with the name of my podcast:)  I'm sharing the link to this episode here.

In this episode I explain why I am taking a break from publishing the podcast until February of 2025. I also share a process that I use to evaluate experiences (in this case the year of 2024) that helped me to identify what went wrong, what went well, and what I might do differently next year. This is a great tool for promoting self-awareness that you can use too. Consider it my holiday gift to you!

As promised, I am sharing some episodes with you here in the show notes that can hold you over until my return. If none of them resonate, go to my website at www.thebrainbs.com and choose ones that appeal to you from over 220 episodes. Scroll down past the episodes to get the link to this week's episode.

This first one is a good one to go to when you get triggered by other people or situations. I share lots of tools in the episode and providers who can help you in the show notes.

  • 221) An Inspirational Piano Man

In this episode I speak with the lead singer of Billy Nation, which is a Billy Joel Tribute band. I came across Adam Shapiro when he performed with his band at the Lobero. There were a lot of empty seats in the theater and it got me thinking about all the Brain BS that must come with being a performer. So I looked for him after the show and invited him to come on the podcast to be interviewed.

It was so fun to talk to Adam because he was willing to be honest and vulnerable. He reminded me how much courage it takes to put yourself out there in the world and just how uncomfortable it can be. So if you are thinking about doing something new, but it's just too scary for you, listen to this episode and see how Adam and I both deal with cultivating a nervous system that can support being seen and heard.
