Fourth of July is right around the corner! This week on The Break Room, Cori Niles, Event and Venue Coordinator discusses Fireworks over the Matanzas, the City's annual Independence Day fireworks extravaganza, free parking and shuttle services on Anastasia Island, the patriotic band concert in the Plaza, as well as this summer's Concerts on the Plaza series.

We are celebrating Waste and Recycling Workers Week by featuring Olivia Smith, Solid Waste Supervisor, on The Break Room! She discusses this year's theme, Solid Waste Superheroes, as well as the equipment her division uses and the array of tasks her team accomplishes.

With election season just around the corner, Vicky Oakes, St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections joined us on The Break Room. She discussed the new polling locations for City of St. Augustine residents (River House and the National Guard Armory), changes due to redistricting and the Census, and more! Every year, the St. Augustine City Commission presents awards to individuals or organizations for outstanding service and contributions to the city. In May, coinciding with Historic Preservation Month, the Commission recognized Margo Pope, presenting her with the 2022 Adelaide Sanchez Award for Historic Education and Interpretation. So, this week on The Break Room, Margo Pope joined us to discuss her career in journalism, as well as her work with The Women's Exchange.

Joining us on The Break Room this week is Jeremy Burg, Geographical Information System (GIS) Manager, to discuss how the City uses GIS and story mapping to help all departments do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. So this week on The Break Room, Buddy Schauland, the City's Building Official and Flood Plain Administrator, will discuss a FEMA reimbursement program called Flood Mitigation Assistance, as well as upcoming workshops for residents and contractors.

May is Historic Preservation Month, so what better time to invite the City's Historic Preservation Officer, Julie Courtney, to join us on The Break Room! She discusses the upcoming St. Augustine History Festival, as well as guidelines and ordinances as they pertain to historic preservation in the Nation's Oldest City.
