In the road trip of life we find that some people don't know how to give directions, some people don't know how to follow directions but everybody can follow somebody who knows the way. In this sermon, Joshua Soto, Pastor for Community Life at Remnant Church (Richmond, VA), examines Jesus' words in John 14-1-14 which answers the question, Why should we travel with Jesus ? Jesus planned the trip, He guides us throughout the trip and ultimately He paid for the trip....Jesus knows the way!

Being a good steward isn’t just about handling money, but looking for ways to make it grow. God has given us gifts and talents that we can use generate income.

The ultimate goal in gaining control in our spending and saving is to free us up to be more generous. However, we can’t wait until we get our finances “together” before we start giving. Giving is central to financial balance. Unlike spending and saving, giving gets God involved in my finances. When we control our finances, we get what we can do. When we involve God, we get what only God can do. Consistency in giving requires a planning and percentage. Very often people who asks questions such as, “You mean to tell me that I have to give to God if my baby is starving?” is really demonstrating that they don’t have a budget or don’t prepare to give beforehand.

Financial balance requires controlled spending. We often know how much we make, but how much we spend remains a mystery. We get in debt due to overspending. Debt is simply a fruit of a deeper root issues such as discontentment, materialism, and idolatry. Debt is simply overspending to the degree that you choose to borrow money for what you are unable to pay for. We must track and control our spending.

Balance is essential in life. Riding a bike requires balance. Walking and running requires balance. Weight of a car must be balanced on all four wheels. We fall whenever we loose balance. Likewise, the key to financial success is balance. Yet, true balance does not begin on a spreadsheet. It begins with our mind. Our minds must be renewed when it comes to finances.

Baptism can be a tricky subject for many Christians to figure out. We tend to have a lot of questions about the subject. Do I have to get baptized to go to heaven? Does it complete my salvation process? The whole ordeal seems a little bizarre – what’s the point of it anyway? In this message Pastor Jumaine outlines what Baptism is really about.

Sometimes, accepting change can be difficult, however, in order to experience change, we have to be willing to change. Change requires dying to old habits so that new ones can blossom.

How do you keep yourself hot? Motivated? Passionate toward Jesus? What if there was a way to return to that zeal or even to be more passionate about God than ever before? In the final part of our series Throwback Thursday, Pastor Jumaine shows us some ways we can loss our passion for God , and teaches us to how we can reignite that flame of passion towards God.

We sometimes have memories of past successes. We even have tangible evidence: trophies, degrees, pictures, awards, etc. yet, we can struggle emotionally as we see our former days as prime. We often become stuck and define our present based on past accomplishments. Sometimes, our past successes clash with our present spiritual values. We can then develop a sense of regret for choosing to please God. Moving forward often requires bringing closure to the past and facing the future with realistic expectations.
