In our first episode of the revival of The Brief, we chattedwith Jock Serong. Jock spoke to us about his unconventional journey from law school to commercial practice, native title work and the Victorian Bar, before ultimately pursuing a career as an author. He reflected on the relationship between law and storytelling, the importance of creativity in legal practiceand the value of taking opportunities that might sit outside the traditional legal career path. Jock also offered some fantastic insights into the importance of creativity in legal practice and why law students shouldn’t feel confined to a single idea of what being a lawyer looks like.

In this episode we chatted with James Samargis. James spoke to us about his journey to the Victorian Bar, his favourite cases to date and how his positions on the boards of Craft Victoria and the National Board of Design have shaped his approach as a lawyer. He also provided incredible insights as to how to effectively represent ordinary, everyday creative clients and how you can begin to cultivate this skill as a law student.
