  • Andy Lynes and Brighton's best restaurants

This week we’re with Andy Lynes, food writer for The Times, Telegraph and The Independent and one of the people behind Brighton Best which, well, as it says on their website, Brighton’s Best Restaurants awards were set set up in 2016 to celebrate the city’s dynamic restaurant scene”. They’re also behind October Best, the city’s celebration of quality restaurants where you can eat for just £25 a head.

The awards come out in April and there’s a big interview with Andy in the next edition of your friendly neighbourhood Whistler about all that. We sent our intrepid reporter, The Whistler’s food editor Gilly Smith to meet him at The Chilli Pickle, The Whistler’s favourite to get his top tips for the Best places to eat in Brighton over the festive season.

  • The Bonsai Plant Kitchen
This week we visit the Bonsai Plant Kitchen in Baker Street in the centre of Brighton, a rather cool new place to eat where it's all plant-based, all vegan south east Asian and it's all cooked on Japanese coals. How cool.

  • Simon Price and Late Night Mini Cab FM
This week we talk to face about town Simon Price about Late Night Mini Cab FM, a DJ night he runs (with Alexis Petridis and John Burgess) at the West Hill Tavern. What is Late Night Mini Cab FM? Well, it's late at night, you're on the way home from a club or night out, you might have had something to drink and you might be feeling maybe a little maudlin, maybe hands-in-the-air happy and that song come on, that song you'd never play to your cool mates but actually you love it. And your cool mates do, too.

  • Cocktails At The Eddy
This week, we head over to The Eddy - https://www.facebook.com/eddybrighton - in Upper Gloucester Road, West Hill. Since taking over at the beginning of 2020, Hatt Eaton and Mark Reed have transformed the place - turning it from a lightbulb to a chandelier. As Bert said to Mary Poppins, every day's a holiday with you, dear. And that's what it's like at The Eddy. Here we meet Andrew Hoyt, by day a psychoanalyst, by night a martini meister

  • Fabrice Camus and French Club
I've got this idea to spend every summer in France, cycling along the paths to the boulangerie, buying a baguette, hanging out in the local cafe, chatting with Jean-Paul, jumping in the Citroen DS Pallas... Thing is - oh, let's nail our colours to the mast - we here at Whistler Towers aren't big fans of Brexit and this seems as subversive a gesture as anything. Need to brush up on my French though. There's only so many times you can ask people where the cat is. There are all sorts of reasons to want to learn French. But how? But where? In this week's podcast we embrace our inner European and meet Fabrice Camus who runs The French Club and Hatt Eaton of The Eddy pub in Upper Gloucester Road where Fabrice holds court

This week, 23-year-old Loulou Novick talks about her first Brighton Pride www.brighton-pride.org since she's fully stepped out of that closet. Does the increasing popularity and commercialisation of Pride make it any less meaningful?
