Join BABC LA President and host James Langridge for a discussion with Katy Haber MBE and Joan Burley Keating MBE. These inspiring women discuss their MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) Honors, awarded by Queen Elizabeth for their charitable work on behalf of children and undeserved individuals.
A film producer, philanthropist and founding member of BAFTA LA, Katy Haber MBE has been an integral part of its Community Education and Outreach program, including multiple programs for inner city kids. She was Executive Director of the renowned Dome Village Homeless Shelter on LA’s Skid Row for 13 years, and started a program in St John's Wood, London, taking orphaned children on day trips to the park. She also mentored ex-gang members from Compton, creating an all Latino and African-American cricket team and facilitating opportunities for them to travel to the UK and Australia.
Joan Burley Keating MBE is at the helm of award-winning, Belfast-based film charity, Cinemagic, which educates, motivates and inspires youth through the magic of film and television. As the largest film and television festival designed for and by young people in the UK and Ireland, the organization sees 40,000 young people (aged 4-25) participate in Cinemagic events in Belfast, Dublin, London, France (Castres), New York and Los Angeles each year.
