When you walk into a hospital, the only thing we all know is that it's going to be expensive. No one, however, will know how much your expected services might cost. You are not given an estimate ahead of time. Nor would anyone truly know how to even put a cost estimate together for you.  Is this really the best we can come up with? Can we truly not give cost estimates until after services are rendered? Why are systems so protective of their costs and charges?

In my last post I mentioned a few reasons for burn out in medical professionals. But I was called out as not providing any solutions. You're right. Thank you for pointing that out. I tell my kids all the time: don't whine, find solutions. And this project is supposed to be helping us find solutions to today's problems.  So let's get right into it: solutions on how to decrease burn out for our medical professionals.

The number being tossed around is that one in five healthcare workers have quit since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. With increasing demands on the system by patients, from an aging population in addition to the pandemic, having fewer healthcare workers puts more strain on the ones left. Which compounds burn out and job dissatisfaction even more.  

What is causing the burn out? How did we get here? Why are our healthcare workers leaving? What needs to change in order to attract people back to this profession?
