Our members were deeply affected by the events that led to the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement around the world. It was clear, that as an international organization, and one that prided itself in being inclusive, we had to step-up and give our members, and ourselves, the opportunity to learn what we didn’t know and grow by providing the platform for us to engage in uncomfortable conversations and ask the difficult questions.We asked Christina Sackeyfio of Boldly Inclusive to help us navigate the sensitive and highly important issues of diversity, inclusion and belonging. It was essential that we, as business owners and leaders create spaces where everyone, clients and employees, belong and can thrive. Episode #82: Recovering from Crisis with Clara PowerMeet Clara Power, Independent Travel Agent and owner of Power Travel. Clara's business was hit hard with COVID-19, but this is not a story of woe. Clara shares the steps she has taken to protect her existing clients and save the business she has built over the last 7 years. She talks about her "rock bottom" moment, when the government banned all non-essential travel. At that moment, she knew people wouldn't be investing in travel for some time, and that this could have a devastating impact on her business. Clara shares what she is doing to serve and support her existing clients, but also the rituals and strategies that have helped her stay positive and keep moving forward, despite these hard times. Episode 81: Leadership and InclusivityAs someone who grew up in a multi-race household, and now has a multi-race family of my own, I have always felt I was "doing my part." I assumed that my allyship was implied. It was not. I have always thought of myself as someone who advocates for diversity and inclusion, but the truth is I have not been an active ally and I now understand that being aware of a problem is not the same thing as advocating for change.I am working on becoming a better advocate, both personally and professionally. I know that this is a lifelong journey. I don’t have all the answers, not even close. And that is an uncomfortable place for me.But I am willing to sit with the discomfort. I’m willing to examine my own biases, which I hope in turn will help others find room to do the same.I believe that in this situation, much like motherhood and entrepreneurship, it is not about getting it perfect. It's about making a start. And I’m starting with education – MY education, my children’s education, and listening to my community.In this episode, I talk about what I’m doing as a human. I talk about what I’m doing as a mother. And I talk about what I’m doing as a business owner and leader. This is not a ‘how to’ or a ‘you should do’ episode, I am simply suggesting that big changes come from first steps.I encourage you to listen to this episode whether you think it’s not for you or if you feel that you are far beyond where I currently am in my journey. Episode 80: Letting Ourselves Be Big with Natalie RuskinIf you've ever felt like you're not stepping into your full power and potential, this conversation will truly resonate with you. In this episode, I speak with my incredible client Natalie Ruskin, who is a life coach helping moms live their mission more fully and with integrity, without burning out. Natalie speaks about how she felt called to serve moms to play big in their lives, and yet struggled with fully stepping into that role. She shares how she once struggled with an eating disorder and body image issues, and how it was difficult for her to speak from those scars, for fear that her audience would see those flaws and judge her for them. And yet once she did own that journey, how powerful that has been for her as a leader. We discuss the concept of "growth" and how important it is to allow ourselves to experience different kinds of growth, especially during this global crisis of COVID-19. She also shares a few simple yet effective mindfulness tools to help us create, as she says, "calm at will". We also discuss the role of faith in our personal journeys. I got chills when Natalie talked about how she gave herself "permission to be unapologetically me" and put herself out there. This is a very unique and spiritual discussion, but a very important one.
