‘It was a little interesting being stuck in a hurricane in the Atlantic in our rowing boat.’
I am not sure many people would use the word ‘interesting’, especially when your rudder has just broken and you are being battered from all sides. But this sums up Oliver. He and a great friend, Dan Parsons, rowed across the Atlantic Ocean in just over 42 days in a 7m rowing boat. For most of us this just sounds insane but for Oliver once he gave his word that was it. There was no turning back.
In this podcast, Mark Hopkins and Oliver Clark cover the alcohol-induced decision to attempt something like this, the logistics and balancing just get to the start line and then the adventures crossing the Atlantic.
Oliver shares lessons on how to stay true to your course, how to set goals and visions to help you on the journey, how committing publicly held them accountable and how to balance training with work, family and the administration to raise the money.
He passes on incredible advice on how to keep driving towards your dream when everything around you is telling you to stop. How to never give in, if it is something that really matters to you. He also describes how it felt to actually step foot onto solid ground again!
The lessons for all of us in this podcast are truly incredible. Oliver and Dan not only completed the adventure but also raised significant amounts of money for two incredible charities and it was the beneficiaries of the charities and their friendship that inspired them to continue even when they lost rowing seats, had injuries, technology broke down and Oliver ended up in the water.
This podcast will give you practical steps from someone who conquered the elements, overcame challenges and achieved something that is in all of us if we truly believe in it.
