Hello and welcome to The C-Show, I’m Charlie,
We have a very important update today, which, if you’ve been listening to the show, you can probably assume was coming. There’s also a few other updates we have for you, our amazing listening audience.
First is that we’re fully divesting from making weekly WWE content. Our position is that supporting the company is untenable going forward; from the recent treatment of talent (specifically femme, POC and queer talent), the return of problematic figures (Brock Lesnar being the straw that broke the camel’s back), and finally, the WWE’s concerning relationship with not only the fascist regime in our own government, but also the relationship with the Saudi government - who we know to be behind some absolutely horrendous things, from the treatment of women and queer people, to the murders of journalists and unarmed civilians.
Lance Storm, ECW legend, brought up a great question on the Figure4 podcast: “does this support your move to improve and make a respectful, safe environment for women in your company, or does it detract from that, and make you feel like you’re going backwards?”
Frankly for us, we feel that covering the WWE, despite its perceived status as the “premiere” sports entertainment promotion, has us going backwards, especially if we’re talking about a company that continues to ride on the nostalgia of people that we don’t respect, cozy up with authoritarian governments, and treats talent as expendable.
Change is difficult, but it is necessary for growth, development, and success.
Ignoring that is simply accepting death.
Beginning on August 20th, with episode 024 of The C-Show; we will begin covering AEW’s weekly programming and PPV events, along with our coverage of Belle2Bell, BCW, and other local wrestling in the Philadelphia area. We will be developing a two-parter “AEW Catchup” that will cover the beginning of the promotion in 2017, its rise and development into the power player that they are today.
During this switchover, we’ll also be introducing a new voice to the show, our friend Jared. Connor will still be on the show, but while he coaches football, we wanted to make sure to have a unique voice on The C-Show to help keep us moving and grooving. Jared and I go way back to my freshman year at Temple, and The C-Show has helped Jared, a similarly lapsed fan, return to the world of sports entertainment. Jared is incredibly insightful and hilarious, and we’re very excited for Jared to join us.
We’re also working on something where Jared and I will be going back in time 31 years and covering ECW’s 1994 (back when it was still EASTERN Championship Wrestling) - stay tuned for more there.
At the end of the day, we want to make something that we’re proud of, and if we’re covering the WWE, hemming and hawing over the moral concerns that we have, we’re not going to make good content in the first place. It’s supposed to be about wrestling, the performance, the art, and that’s what we want to bring to you.
Well, with all of that said; we’re very grateful that you join us each week to hear us talk about wrestling. We just want to make cool shit. Thank you so much for listening to The C-Show.
