Agalia Baker is the author of the upcoming book: If Cancer is a Gift, Can I Return It? From Grief to Healing. The book will release in early 2024.
Note: This podcast is longer than normal.
Agalia is a retired advanced practice nurse with 40 plus years of experience. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she quickly learned that even though she was thoroughly familiar with the cancer treatment process, she was totally unprepared to deal with cancer as a patient.
After her diagnosis, she searched for a resource that would provide information, especially for the emotional turmoil she was experiencing. When she couldn't, a seed was planted, and years later, she was inspired to write the book. She provides not only the medical perspective of what is happening, she also weaves in her own experience. Some big aha's what are things you can say as someone who is supporting your loved one through the experience and gaining insight into the "actions" that you see and feel as a caregiver.
Her goal is to both release the book, and become a speaker to educate the medical profession as well.

She is also the co-founder of the Teal Paws project which matched sexual assault survivors and canine partners for healing. She is in the process of revitalizing Teal Paws with a new book and card deck so that those who need it have access to the information.

Susan is a Master Equine Gestaltist and Equine Assisted Playshop Facilitator at Connection And Synergy, LLC. She knows how making connections with doctors can help the patient by being a caregiver for her husband for five-and-one half years, a breast cancer survivor, and being the daughter of the only doctor in a small rural community. She has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in healthcare. The Gestalt process helped her to see how self-care helped her husband and herself. She formed a deeper connection with her husband and the doctors. She is now a Master Equine Gestaltist who is ready to help you help your patients on a deeper level and have a more fulfilling life.
Susan has been a cowgirl since she was 5 years old when her grandfather gave her a pony. She was also raised in a small community where her father was the only daughter. She worked in the business helping her father. Years later she became a caregiver for her husband as well as a patient during her own breast cancer treatment. She works with supporting family caregivers as well as doctor's to create stronger relationships with their patients and more balance in their lives.
