When Renee wanted to raise funds, she was disappointed that you could only raise money for non profits and not for individuals. She and her friend Ethan who had raised money for a major non-profit in a marathon, thought there should be an easier way for marathon runners to raise money for any charity—not just the registered partners. Ethan talks about how he and Renee founded Give Forward, a unique website that supports friends and family in their time of need.

I am truly honored to have been able to talk to Sarah Feather before she passed. This was recorded on April 27, 2011. Sarah passed on May 3, 2011, less than a week later. Sarah Feather was an ovarian cancer survivor who battled the disease on and off for since 2006 and recently decided to end treatment. This is an important podcast for anyone touched by cancer. When Heidi Floyd was pregnant with her fourth child she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Most of the doctors she saw said she had to terminate her pregnancy in order to have chemo to save her life. Not wanting to lose her baby she found help in one unlikely place, her employer Vera Bradley. Heidi learned that The Vera Bradley Foundation supports research at Indiana University at the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories. The Foundation has raised millions of dollars for research to find a cure. Now Heidi is a passionate advocate, traveling across the country, telling her story.

Its the last day of National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week and Mel talks about what its like to be a young adult survivor and the challenges she faces as a young adult survivor and her advice to other young adult cancer survivors out there.

Being discovered by well known on air personality and actor Jay Thomas is only the beginning of Mark O'Toole's amazing journey. While in Boston he would call his friend a local DJ on WVBF-FM, it was there that Thomas invited Mark to Hollywood to be a part of his nationally syndicated radio show. While there he missed his first love singing. After moving to Las Vegas Mark appeared on Star Search in 1994 and won, beating out a five time winner. That caught the attention of the Vegas establishment where Mark started his career. While enjoying his fame and popularity in Las Vegas Mark was diagnosed with lymphoma and was given only a few weeks to live. Undaunted by his diagnosis he vowed to beat the disease, and after months of chemo Mark was told he was in remission. Mark shares his story of hope and prayer, and gives The Cancer Warrior world exclusive information about his new album The Crooner.

Tami Boehmer had a recurrance of breast cancer just a few months after her 5 year cancerversary. One of her doctors told her, “You could live two years or 20 years, but you’ll die from breast cancer.” Undaunted by that she wanted to find other cancer survivors who beat doctors odds to find out how she could do it herself. Those stories are featured in her book From Incurable to Incredible: Cancer Survivors Who Beat The Odds. Those survivors brought her inspiration and hope. They are miracle survivors.

How many young adult cancer survivors can say they found out they had cancer from their Mom? Owen Applequist did, because his mom is a physician. Owen was diagnosed with Hogdkins Lymphoma when he was 26. Not letting that stop him, he kept working and staying active. 15 months later he was diagnosed with Non-Hogdkins Lymphoma. Owen had already planned to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and he was determined that his cancer did not stop him from living his life to the fullest. Just 95 days after completing chemo he summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. Owen raises awareness and money during his climbs and he is currently becoming an instructor for First Descents an organization that offers mountain climbing and other outdoor adventure sports for cancer survivors. When Danielle Leach lost her 5-year-old son Mason to brain cancer she turned grief into action. She founded The Mason Leach Superstar Fund to benefit Children’s National Medical Center, and to encourage and empower patients to recognize their inner strength and feel like a superstar. She is also the Director of Partnerships at Inspire, and organization where survivors and caregivers can find support. In addition to all of this advocacy for cancer patients, Danielle was recently asked to be a part of the 2011 class of 46 mommas, a group that raises awareness for childhood cancers, and that was featured on the last Stand Up 2 Cancer television event.
