Cannon Cruisers Season 4 Wrap-Up - Cannon Films Retrospective
Hey Cannon Cruisers fans! Randy here! It's time to look back once more upon all the things we watched in Season 4. This run took us through much of Cannon Films' 1987 output, with 13 Cannon movies alongside nine Non-Cannon detours. We revisit everything from Over the Top and American Ninja 2: The Confrontation to Masters of the Universe and Death Wish 4: The Crackdown.
JD and I work through the season episode by episode, checking back in on movies that stuck with us and a few that barely did. We also revisit the two planned Cannon episodes that fell apart because the available copies were nearly unwatchable, sending us to Big Trouble in Little China and What About Bob? instead.
Content Warning: This episode contains strong language and discussion of violence and sexual assault.
Hey Cannon Cruisers fans! Randy here! This week, JD and I step outside our usual territory with Frank Oz's What About Bob? (1991), starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss. Bob is a patient with a long list of phobias who tracks down his new psychiatrist during a family vacation, then proceeds to make himself increasingly at home while the doctor's patience begins to disappear.
As one of our first attempts at covering a straight comedy, JD and I talk about how the movie builds its jokes from a relatively simple setup into something increasingly absurd. Much of the conversation centres on Murray and Dreyfuss, particularly the way their characters gradually seem to trade places. We also get into a surprisingly tricky question underneath all the comedy: how much of what happens is actually Bob's fault? But really, What About Bob?
Content Warning: This episode contains strong language and discussion of mature themes.
