Hey Cannon Cruisers fans! Randy here! Oh boy howdy, this week JD and I check out Critters (1986), the sci-fi horror comedy directed by Stephen Herek and starring Dee Wallace. A pack of escaped alien creatures known as Crites crash-land near a small Kansas town, where one unlucky family finds itself caught between the hungry little monsters and a pair of shape-shifting bounty hunters sent to track them down.
JD and I get into the film's long-standing reputation as a Gremlins knockoff and why the actual production history makes that comparison more complicated. We also spend time on the Chiodo Brothers' creature effects and the film's mix of horror, comedy and science fiction. Along the way, the discussion turns to what kind of audience Critters was really made for and why these small-monster movies became such a recognizable part of the 1980s.
Watch out, they bite!
