  • TOP 10 Horror Movies of 2024 (HEAVY SPOILERS)

    Hey Horror friends and family,

We are back with our TOP 10 Horror Movies of 2024! Neither Tom nor John shared their lists with each other and some surprising picks show up on both lists. We also go through a list of honorable mentions as well. As per usual, two ridiculous fake  commercials (written and created by John and Tom) break up the conversation at the most inopportune times.

  • Interview: Brandon Bassham, Writer/Director of Bring On The Damned (TROMA Entertainment)
It's 2025 and The Cantaloupe Cats Movie Podcast is coming out strong with a very special episode. Brandon Bassham (Troma), writer of #ShakespearesShitstorm, Director of Feartown USA, The Slashening, and Slashening: Final Beginning joins the podcast for a wide ranging interview! We talk about his new horror anthology, Bring On The Damned (John & Tom went to the premiere at The Museum of The Moving Image) and we dig in on indie filmmaking, shooting a film for Troma, Lloyd Kaufman, and so much more. Find out why Brandon's favorite film of the year is Joker 2 & why a 1/10 star movie is better than a 5/10. SPOILERS for Bring On The Damned. • Episode 3. Nosferatu (Heavy Spoilers) Featuring Matthew Milligan
The Cantaloupe Cats succumb to the darkness with a deep dive into Nosferatu. Special Guest Matthew Milligan came ready to play, having just watched Werner Herzog's classic 1979 Nosferatu the Vampyre as well as seeing Robert Egger's new film with his whole family (Tom Milligan and Matthew Milligan are brothers). Matthew Milligan is a co-host of the Weird Al-gorithm Podcast, the bass player for Wheatus (Teenage Dirtbag) and Late Cambrian & John Wlaysewski's partner in crime for experimental musical collective, Fashion Bird Danger Danger. This is a wide ranging conversation with HEAVY SPOILERS for all Nosferatu's, The Northerman, The Lighthouse, The Witch, Let The Right One In, What We Do in the Shadows, SpongeBob, and numerous other films that come up naturally in conversation. We all had differing opinions on Nosferatu 2024, but art is subjective and we love each other. As is tradition, Matt, Tom & John each submitted fake commercials for the podcast. You will hear them as you listen to the conversation! Correction: The Northman was released by Focus Features (not Neon)

  • Mini Review: Spoiler review of Conclave and Anora
Friend of the podcast, Ed Douglas (Weekend Warrior Movie Reviews) is back for a discussion of Conclave and Anora, two films that surprised John Wlaysewski. Ed and John chat about liminal spaces, intersex people & underrepresented people in cinema. This review is a companion piece with Ed and John's discussion on Gladiator 2 and Megalopolis. Coming up next for the podcast, a Spoiler Heavy deep dive in Nosferatu, the 2024 film by Robert Eggers!

  • Episode 2. HERETIC (Heavy Spoilers) Featuring Olive Hui
The Cantaloupe Cats are back with a brand new deep dive into HERETIC, the 2024 psychological horror movie directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. It stars Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, and follows two Mormon missionaries who attempt to convert a reclusive Englishman only to find themselves in a religious cat and mouse game. It's exactly the type of religious horror that hosts John Wlaysewski and Tom Milligan love to dig in to (like a delicious blueberry pie) so get ready for a full spoiler plot breakdown, explanations of the butterfly dream & plato's cave, as well as other themes, symbols & metaphors. A big Cantaloupe Cats welcome to actor, musician & artist Olive Hui, who joins us on the pod and shares their insight into religion, cults and group think and how to make your way in the world. Just like episode 1. (The Substance), there are 3 fake commercials placed throughout the episode to break up the discussion with theme relevant humor. John, Tom and Olive each created their own commercials and you will get a sense of their vibe through the creations. Just a reminder this is a HEAVY SPOILER discussion. We open the book and read deeply into the holy scripture of Heretic, so be forewarned. OK, let's get into it. Theme Song: Late Bloomer by Late Cambrian

  • Mini Review: Spoiler review of Gladiator 2 and Megalopolis w/ Ed Douglas

Friend of the podcast, Ed Douglas (Weekend Warrior Movie Reviews), took John Wlaysewski to see Gladiator 2 on the largest IMAX screen in North America (at 76.2 feet tall) located at 68th street & Broadway in NYC. Here's a mini review of Gladiator 2 with SPOILERS. We also review Megalopolis or as I like to call it, Ed Wood's Caligula.

Episode 2 of The Cantaloupe Cats podcast will focus on Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher & Chloe East. Religious Horror is one of my favorite genres & this movie comes at it from a pretty interesting angle.

Anyway, enjoy this stopgap while I edit Heretic.

Thanks to Ed Douglas for his time and insight!
