Hello Listeners! I'm thrilled to be here today to talk about a topic that affects ALL of us, no matter what stage we are in with our career OR our personal journey - the art of creating to-do lists that not only boost your productivity but uplifts your spirits, rather than sending you into a state of depression!
Now, before we take a deeper dive into this very important topic, if you are new here, I want to welcome you at the beginning of our episode and thank you for checking us out. Topics like the one we are talking about today is what we tackle together on this podcast and so if that sounds like you, YOU are in the right place.
Now, let’s first, let’s get to the Power of To-Do Lists - Let's start by recognizing the fundamental importance of to-do lists. They're like roadmaps that guide us through our tasks and responsibilities. However, how often have we found ourselves feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or even defeated when staring at a never-ending list of tasks? Today, I want to share some strategies that will transform your to-do lists into sources of inspiration and motivation.
Tip #1: Shift from Overwhelming to Empowering - the key to crafting a to-do list that doesn't depress you lies in shifting your mindset. Tip #2: The Magic of Prioritizing - one of the primary reasons to-do lists can be disheartening is the feeling that you'll never finish everything. Tip #3: Embrace Realism and Flexibility - it's easy to fall into the trap of overloading your to-do list, setting yourself up for disappointment. Tip #4: Celebrate Small Wins - no task is too small to celebrate. Tip #5: Incorporating Self-Care - your to-do list should prioritize more than just work-related tasks. Tip #6: The Joy of Progress Tracking - keep a separate section on your to-do list to track your progress. Seeing how far you've come can be incredibly motivating.
As we wrap up today's episode, I encourage you to approach your to-do lists with a fresh perspective. Remember, they're not meant to be stress-inducing documents but rather tools for your personal and professional growth!

I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and today, we're going to delve into a topic that affects so many of us in our professional lives - feeling valued at work. Feeling valued at work is vital for job satisfaction and overall well-being. It impacts our motivation, productivity, and even our mental health. Yet, many career women find themselves in situations where they feel undervalued or underappreciated.
Maybe you're not receiving feedback or recognition for your hard work, or you notice a lack of opportunities for growth and advancement. If any of these sound familiar, remember that you are NOT alone. It happens to many of us, and it's crucial to address these feelings head-on, and HERE’S HOW:

#3: Advocate for yourself. Don't be afraid to speak up for your accomplishments and contributions.
#4: Seeking opportunities for growth. If you feel stuck in your current role, inquire about professional development opportunities or projects that align with your strengths and interests.

Welcome to Another Episode of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and and today we are going to be finding out whether or not you may be a workaholic. We are going to start by defining what a workaholic truly is AND we are going to be talking about what it's NOT. And more importantly, we are going to be looking at what you can do about it.
First, let's define what we really mean when we say someone is a workaholic. A workaholic is someone who really can't turn it off - they are obsessed with work tasks even when they are at home, and often times, this stress is self-imposed. This obsession can interfere with any kind of work/life balance and can affect relationships and self-care.
It's also important to point out what workaholism is NOT - it's not passion for your work or loving what you do. It's not high performance or productivity. It's not caring about your job or wanting to do well. It's really a matter of degree - are you sacrificing your hobbies and spending time with loved ones? Are you sacrificing your own health? If doing so has become the rule and is no longer the exception, then you may be a workaholic.
To find out more AND to hear what you can do about it, be sure to tune in to today's episode where I show you 5 ways you can conquer this problem if you discover this is you!

Hello ladies, and Welcome to Episode 25 of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk. Today, we're delving into a topic that resonates with so many professional moms out there – Career Mom Guilt! As ambitious women, we often find ourselves juggling various roles – being a mom and pursuing a successful career. While it's incredibly fulfilling, it also comes with its challenges, one of which is that nagging feeling of guilt. You know what I'm talking about – that inner voice questioning if we are doing enough for our children, family, and career.
So, let's explore this career mom guilt together. First and foremost, it's essential to recognize that you are not alone in feeling this way. Many successful women face the same challenge of finding balance and sometimes feel guilty about not being able to give 100% to both aspects of their lives simultaneously.
I want to share some practical tips to help you navigate through these feelings and come out stronger on the other side.:
#1: Embrace imperfection. Remember that it's okay not to be perfect. Striving for perfection in both your career and motherhood is a daunting task. Instead, focus on doing your best and give yourself permission to make mistakes. It's these imperfections that make us human and give us opportunities to learn and grow.
#2: Set boundaries. As a career mom, it's easy to blur the lines between work and family time. Establishing clear boundaries between these two aspects of your life can help alleviate guilt.
#3: Prioritize self-care. We often put ourselves last on the list of priorities, but self-care is crucial to maintain balance. Remember that taking care of yourself allows you to be a better mom and a more productive professional.
#4: Comparison. Comparing ourselves to others can be detrimental to our well-being. Each woman's journey is unique, and what works for someone else may not work for you.
#5: Seek support and community. Connecting with other career moms who understand what you're going through can be incredibly comforting. Share your experiences, seek advice, and offer support to one another. Building a strong network can help you navigate the challenges of balancing work and motherhood.

Welcome to Another Episode of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and and today we're diving into a topic that is SO fascinating, that if you listened to last week’s episode, you KNOW that today’s episode is a 2-parter on the Fear of Success.
Now, if you are STILL not sure if this fear really applies to you, how about we talk abut a few telltale signs to look out for? First, you might notice a pattern of self-sabotage or procrastination when it comes to taking steps toward success. Fear of success can manifest as a fear of failure, leading individuals to avoid opportunities or make excuses to prevent themselves from achieving their goals. Second, there may be a fear of change. Success often brings change, and some individuals may find the unknown and unfamiliarity uncomfortable. Lastly, there might be a fear of judgment and criticism. Success can attract attention and expectations from others, which can be intimidating and overwhelming.
NOW, let’s get to the reason you are listening to today’s episode…what can you do about it? In other words, let’s get to Your Fear of Success Game Plan!
1. Identify and challenge limiting beliefs: Start by recognizing any negative or self-sabotaging thoughts you have about success.
2. Visualize success and embrace positive outcomes: Imagine yourself achieving your goals and visualize the positive impact it will have on your life.
3. Seek support and surround yourself with positive influences: Share your fears and aspirations with trusted friends, family, or a mentor.
4. Set achievable goals and take small steps: Break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks.
5. Celebrate milestones and successes: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements along the way.
WRAP-UP: Remember that fear of success is a common experience, and it's something you can overcome. Don't let fear hold you back from reaching your full potential. Embrace the challenges, believe in yourself, and take those necessary steps towards success. You deserve it.

Hello ladies, and Welcome to Episode 23 of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and you might remember that last week’s episode we asked whether or not you were a perfectionist which is especially important for this community of career women we have on this platform since women are plagued with this issue more often than our male counterparts, and something that is tied VERY closely to perfectionism is fear – and you MIGHT think that a fear of failure is what drives perfectionism. IS THERE an element of that in perfectionism? Sure. But often times the other side of this coin is the fear of success – it’s MUCH more subtle and is JUST as important to examine and a fear of failure would be, so THAT is what we are going to get to today.
Let’s start by discussing the fear that you are probably more familiar with and THAT is the fear of failure – did you know that if you looked up the “fear of failure” on Amazon, you would get over 28,000 results? So, you’re definitely not alone if you struggle in this area. Interestingly enough, a person’s ability to manage their fear and do things in spite of it is often times a predictor of success.
And when it comes to the fear of success, it’s not even that you think you’re incapable of succeeding—it’s more about the fear of change that may come and whether you’re up for it. For example, look at this list below and ask yourself, “Have I ever said any of these negative/disempowering statements to myself, and if so, how many of these do I believe are true?”
• The higher you go, the further you have to fall.
• If you achieve too much, you’ll alienate your peers.
• Success may not be all it’s cracked up to be.
• If you make more money than your friends, they will be resentful.
• If you make too much money, your family/friends will feel less than.
• It’s not safe to be in the spotlight.
• Success might change you, and probably not for the better.

Hello ladies, and welcome to The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and you might remember that last week’s episode we talked about the fact that we would take a deeper dive on this VERY unhealthy pattern of perfectionism in THIS week’s episode – WHY? Because when we talked about how to uncover your grit and become unstoppable, perfectionism can stand in your way, which is the reason I have nicknamed perfectionism “grit’s toxic cousin!”
BUT, before we take a look at this issue, IF YOU’RE NEW here, WELCOME to our community of busy and amazing career women who are want to live their lives with more passion and purpose – If that sounds like you, then YOU are in the right place…
Now, let's get to today's episode! Keep in mind that there are times when “perfection” is necessary to establish standards, like in performance athletics such as diving and gymnastics. Unlike perfectionism, the pursuit of excellence is a whole other ball of wax. Excellence is an attitude, not an endgame.
In comparison to perfectionism, pursuing excellence is far more forgiving, allowing and embracing failure and vulnerability as part of the ongoing quest for improvement. It allows for disappointment and prioritizes progress over perfection, which is an important distinction.
Let’s start with a NEW definition of what it means to be “PERFECT”:
· Plan B – Always have a Plan B because good planning is always part of the process.
· Endure it – We have all been through it, right? Sometimes, you just have to ride it out.
· Realize the Opportunity – You may have heard it said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things around you change.” Use that same philosophy when you’re trying to combat perfectionism.
· Forgive Yourself – We are often harder on ourselves than we would be on ANYONE else.
· Extend an Apology, if Necessary – There is no shame in your game…apologize if you need to and MOVE on.
· Correct it – If a correction of some type is necessary, then go for it, but just don’t get stuck in that place.
· Try, Try Again – They say that “practice makes perfect,” but again, that is NOT what we are going for here.
For more about these strategies and more, tune in to today's episode!

And don’t forget, if you need something more, I’ve got some free resources for you that can help you right now on my website, so head on over to drdawnshoptalk.com to check that out.
Let’s begin by defining what I mean by “beating yourself up:”
I am sure you’ve heard the expression “we are our own worst critic.” THAT is basically what I mean, that ability to see the greatness in others, but not always seeing it in ourselves and when you DON’T see your own greatness, it can definitely affect you in the workplace AND in your personal life. The irony is that this seems to affect women in greater numbers – So, let’s figure out WHY this may be happening:
To diagnose the root of the problem, let’s start with a couple of questions:
1) Are you a perfectionist?
2) Are you giving yourself credit when credit is due?
3) Are you suffering from comparison-itis?
4) Are you feeling like a faiure?
For a deeper dive for these 4 questions AND for strategies on what you can do about it, tune in for your Game Plan!

Hi Everyone, and Welcome to Episode 20 of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! This is YOUR PLACE to find quick tips on how to live your life with more passion and purpose. On THIS podcast, we are going to talk about a variety of issues that you may be facing in the workplace that COULD affect your success.
So HOW IS your career going? Do you feel pretty good about your work/life balance right now? Today’s episode is going to be all about uncovering your grit and becoming unstoppable BUT before we get into the specifics about how you can do just THAT, if you like this kind of content BE SURE to Rate and Review our podcast so that we can get our message out to more folks JUST LIKE YOU!
So, let’s start by looking at what grit actually is and the role it can play in your future success. Although definitions can vary, I define Grit as “the place within all of us where passion meets determination…” I also believe that grit includes aspects of courage, tenacity, and resolve to accomplish your goals, no matter what. In other words, it’s that unwavering belief that everything works out the way it should, and it’s often accompanied by true joy and energy. Working on the tips I’ll share with you in today’s episode CAN help you uncover this power within you so that YOU can become unstoppable.
Resilience is often defined as a dynamic combination of optimism, creativity, and confidence, which together empower one to reappraise situations and regulate emotion. That is why this is often tied to grit, because today’s social scientists refer to this kind of behavior as “hardiness” or “grit.” Current researchers take it even further and explain that “hardiness” comprises three basic principles:
1) the belief one can find meaningful purpose in life,
2) the belief that one can influence one’s surroundings and the outcome of events,
3) the belief that positive and negative experiences will lead to learning and growth.
To find out more, and to find out what grit is NOT, be sure to tune in to today's episode!

Hello ladies, and Welcome to Episode 19 of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and you might remember that last week’s episode was all about what’s holding you back, and in last week’s case, that could be a difficult boss. This week we are going to look at the power of belief, and more importantly how disempowering beliefs might be the reason why.
So, here’s the deal – YOUR BELIEFS are everything? Why? Because your beliefs determine your actions, and your actions determine your future since what you are actually doing (not talking about our planning, but actually DOING) either sets yourself up for success or it doesn’t. In other words, you can talk all day long about setting a goal that is important to you – a career goal, a health goal, a relationship goal, you name it.
But if there is no action behind it, then it just becomes a pipe dream, and we don’t want that. Sure, as a business and career coach, I WANT you to dream, and I want you to dream big and not limit your dreams right out of the gate, but if you take no action steps, then your dreams just go unfulfilled, which can then lead to anger, disappointment, frustration, etc.
So HERE is your action plan: you’re going to start challenging your disempowering beliefs each and every time you have them, and when you do, start appreciating the power those beliefs can have over you. Since this dynamic is not always obvious, be sure to spend at least 14 days watching yourself carefully. Literally go on the hunt for these beliefs and start knocking them down one at a time. This one strategy alone can be a powerful tool because when you take one belief away, it’s human nature to replace that belief with something else.
Ok you guys, I hope enjoyed stopping in Today for our episode and I look forward to you joining us NEXT time – in the meantime, don’t forget our motto here at ShopTalk and IT IS THIS: If YOU are not having a FANTASTIC day, YOU have the POWER to make it one!
