The Case of the Murderous Mother Daughter Love Triangle
News of the Times Episode 377  | 1877
In today’s episode it is 1877 France and sadly, a wealthy middle-aged man has died leaving all his wealth to his 15 year old daughter who has been raised in a convent.

If the young woman stays in the convent, as she wishes to do, all of her wealth, worth some £2 million in today’s money, will go to the convent.

Her mother, former mistress and wife of the deceased, brings her daughter back unwillingly.

The wife, whilst her husband was dying, took on a young lover who has a known lust for money.  As the young girl returns, he realises that the daughter is the actual heiress – not the mother he has been having illicit relations with.

From here the story unfolds into deception, corruption, and ultimately a rather gruesome death.

We take a look at this famous French case of the murderous mother daughter love triangle that gripped all of France at the time.

For true crime buffs, France did not always use the guillotine to render justice.  There was a far less compassionate method used before.  We take a quick look at the end of the episode.
