✔️ Forced fun is not fun? Wowee, ya don't say!
✔️Some candidates will apply to a job they don't actually want in an effort to get a raise, a promotion, etc. IMHO, if you are commanding everyone to RTO and you're getting ghosted or your hiring funnel is relatively empty, well, you're playing yourself.
✔️Layoffs via Zoom were bad enough but now layoffs via text?
✔️We're told that adult loneliness is at an all-time high and people feel they have difficulty making friends. It seems like they've forgotten the old rule: in order to have a friend, you have to BE a friend.

It would be nice if those Progressive Insurance commercials where you could ask for an official review/replay in life actually existed! Unfortunately, in the business world, you may occasionally encounter someone who behaves like Jon Lovitz as the Pathological Liar. Hence we add to the Hall of Infamy Lenny the Liar, who can also be a gaslighter, too.
Key topics:
✔️ Beware of the phrase, "I AM THE CLIENT!" It's akin to "the customer is always right" even though every business owner knows that is not true.
✔️ If you left Corporate America to avoid liars, backstabbers, micromanagers, etc., if you do not carefully guard your own practice, you can duplicate the same nightmare you sought to escape.
✔️ Lenny types can also try to use you as a scapegoat. They know their project is probably doomed to fail and they want to point a finger of blame at someone other than themselves.
✔️ Do you have a rainy day fund set aside? If you have some money put back in savings, it can make things easier if you need to fire fast.

Even people with little or no expertise in the job market have started to look around and say, "Uh-oh. Maybe, um, things are not so great after all... maybe these stats we're hearing are complete nonsense..."
Yet we still have so-called experts telling people, "Just go get another job. Go stir up a side hustle. Just get yerself over-employed and you'll be fine." Riiiiiiight. OK. Sure. 😒
People who thought that The Great Resignation would last forever are on the same wavelength with realtors who thought the FOMO & YOLO of 2021 would also last forever, too. Now those folks are going bankrupt and dealing with layoffs.

✔️ More six-figure earners are shopping at Walmart because they have to. We're also finally allowed to know that credit card debt is going through the roof.
✔️Are there people who game the system and lie? Of course. But not everyone does that. IMO, any boss who feels like Covid is just a lame excuse to stay home can go straight to hell.
✔️Is Lord Elon going to learn some big lesson from people walking out of Twitter? Nope. I think this is all about weeding out people who are non-compliant.
Yes, I sound like a frog with a 2 ciggy pack a day habit. This too shall pass. 🐸🚬

According to Fortune.com, "The Great Remorse takes over the Great Resignation as most workers who quit their job are having a hard time finding a new one." And so it begins...
Back on April 4th, I published the blog post "When the Pendulum Swings..." because I knew it would.
"Just as the pendulum will swing away from being an extreme sellers' market with buyers willing to waive inspections, overbid, offer based on photos without even going to the house, etc., this will happen with the job market as well. It's only a matter of time."
Now here we are.

✔️ Post midterms we see a tale of two economies. People'r'doin' great and inflation is coming down - but ha ha not really.
✔️Also: mortgage rates are going down but banks are looking for a bailout. So which is it? Things are improving now but they're not?
✔️Lord Elon hath told the Twitter staff that work from home forever is done-zo. Do you not think other companies won't do the same thing?
✔️That guy down the hall might get caught in a layoff but it won't happen to me! Really?

Last week, a couple of important yet relatively unnoticed articles popped up on MarketWatch: "Hedge-fund giant Elliott warns looming hyperinflation could lead to 'global societal collapse'" and "A U.S. labor shortage is planting the seeds for lots of layoffs. Here's how." Even though the topics may seem a little different, they are not unrelated, IMO.
Key topics:
✔️ I believe it's important to pay attention to what the fat cats and hedge fund managers say PRIVATELY. Watch what they do and watch what they say to the investors, board of directors, etc. When they are telling investors that we may be in for the worst conditions since WWII, I think that's worth a listen.
✔️ The state and/or The Fed won't blame themselves. The memo from Elliott even admits that. Oh no. They blame working class people instead. Quelle surprise. 😒
✔️ If someone is still goofing around with their head in the clouds, I truly don't know what it's gonna take.

On September 1st, I published the episode, "Whatever Happened to the Middle Class American Dream?" Apparently now, even the MSM is asking that question. Better late than never, I guess.
Key topics:
✔️ "The American middle class is experiencing the biggest wealth drop since the Great Recession." -Fortune.com Well, at least we're allowed to bring up 2008. I think back to all the people on their soapboxes, "Oh we would just neevvverrrr have another 2008..." Really?!?
✔️ We're still getting the narrative, however, that people are going into this downturn flush with cash. Plenty of money in savings, low personal debt, all that stimmy cash from 2020. 😒
✔️ At this point, if someone still has their head buried in the sand, I think it's probably too late. By the time we're told a recession hath hit, we may be in an economic depression.

✔️ So... wait a minute. Is it a buyout for "underperforming" people or is it just an attempt to get rid of workers 55+? Let's be real about things.
✔️A 3.7% unemployment rate? 😆 OK, sure.
✔️On Monday - Twitter layoffs are just a rumor. By Friday - they are a reality. Yet another reason why I advocate for critical thinking and common sense over listening to talking heads.
✔️The economists who said we wouldn't see mass layoffs in Q4... how are their predictions looking now?

"The war for talent is over. Talent won, says PwC U.S. chairman Tim Ryan."
Uh... OK.
"Companies are moving back to mandates, anywhere from two days to five days in the office citing the need for connection, but Ryan said what is important is redefining what connection means in the workplace, and mandates no longer make sense for today’s workforce. " -CNBC
Have you ever heard the expression, "If 'ifs and buts' were candy and nuts we'd all have a wonderful Christmas" ? That's how I feel about this.
🔮 Prediction alert: if talent had actually won this talent war in the long-term, wouldn't the economy look quite a bit different? Would we see leaked memos about how the balance of power needs to go back to Corpo America? Would The Fed want to see unemployment going up? To use the phrase du jour: c'mon man. This feels like the calm before a sudden rabbit punch knocks you out.
