Today we are welcoming Dr. Ambrosio, our newest diagnostic sciences faculty and mentor at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Her compassion and joy for life radiates through all her work, personally and professionally. She makes it her mission to be present with her students. But outside these clinic walls, her roles include and are not limited being a mother, a wife, a daughter, an avid reader, and personal development extraordinaire. She gives a new meaning to me and others around her to the idea of happiness and how it is not sought. Rather, happiness must ensue, she reminds us.

Coach Walsh is noted to have been one of the most influential figures of NFL history as he turned the San Francisco 49ers from the worst franchise in sports to a dynasty that crowds across the country admire. Amongst his many locker room best practices to his pregame field performance strategies, one of the most notable features of Walsh’s ways was his ability to clear out the noise. Ridicule, judgment, misunderstandings, preconceived notions, pressured opinions, and unsolicited advice… all that can come … in fact it surely will… no matter what you are doing… no matter who you are or who you asked for guidance. Those things will come and they will continue to pour in as you journey on in life, taking on new roles and changes in lifestyle. But what is an absolute shame is the idea that one day you can wake up realizing that you allowed people and their way of thinking to cloud your own choices and to quite literally rob you of all the magic you had left to explore.

If it is out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too. Isn’t it strange how the deepest turmoil we will have in life is internal? It's the way we speak to ourselves, the way we critique our decisions and thoughts, and the way we tug on our own heart strings due to circumstances that are outside of our control. The stoics explain the simple concept that the one thing truly in our control is our mindset... let's dive into this!

When what you do, say and think are not aligned, you can feel segregated from yourself. Your actions don’t follow the words you utter and your spirit doesn’t feel supported.

I believe that the end of this suffering lies in defining who it is you are, deeply and innately, and then going out there and showing up as that person. Follow through, not because you feel less than, or because others didn’t do that for you or for even wanting to feel better… do it because that is who you are.

Where society misleads us is in believing that only the popularized method is considered “successful”, all else is a gamble. But really, not risking it, not pivoting, and not questioning is the gamble. The winding path there is the only way there, one where every decision is consciously made and not subconsciously pressured.
