In Episode 30 of The Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav talk about establishing a connection with students in the new Online world of teaching. Going into this new way of teaching was, for many, very short notice and abrupt. There was no time to ease students into the idea of it. Much of the culture building that happened in the face-to-face classrooms was disrupted and completely came to a halt once teachers started setting up their online classrooms. 

In this episode, Chey and Pav discuss the need for relationship building - to ensure that students are engaged and find meaningful reasons to want to participate in a classroom environment that can feel so isolating at times. It brings students closer to the work, and closer to each other again, when it is so easy to become and remain so distant. 

The duo talks about some of the ways that they have been able to lure their students into participating on discussion online, by providing them with some simple prompts that allow them to talk about things they want to discuss. Simple things, like talking about a book they are reading, or they music they are listening to, can be great ways to hook and engage kids to want to be online, and to pick up talking with their friends like they once had.

In these more challenging times, Kavita talks about how the organization has had to alter their message and their means for disseminating it.

In Episode 29 of The Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav talk about the New Horizons that are emerging with new learning experiences becoming available to students through E-Learning platforms. The team talks about all the different ways that this new experience has been described, from distance ed, to remote learning and e-learning - Chey and Pav feel like the learning that is currently happening with students in this climate is more about crisis management than learning. 

The duo goes over several different ways that they are thinking about tackling their new online learning environment - what kinds of work will they offer their students, what will be the expectations from the learning that they do. They discuss what assessment will look like, what evaluation might look like, and what sorts of things teachers should avoid that might cause them undue stress. 

Chey and Pav discuss the fact that all teachers lie on a particular spectrum when it comes to their experience with technology, and not everyone is on a level playing field, and therefore students will be in different places with their abilities with online learning. Because of all these factors, it cannot be expected that all teachers and all students will be able to master these new environments for learning readily. 

The Dynamic Duo introduces Christine Ravesi-Weinstein, High School Assistant Principal from Massachusetts for their 3 Enlightened Minutes segment, as she talks about advocating for mental health strategies for student struggling with anxiety and depression.

In Episode 28 of The Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav talk about their at-home learning environment for their kids. They discuss what the atmosphere has been like, what they have established as their schedule for the day, and what they predict schedules will be like once the distance ed programs begin with school. 

They duo talks about the importance of "Soft Schedules," dedicated time to make and create during the day, and the need for students to have lots of unstructured time. The day cannot be as rigid as it was while we were in school - at home we have to give our children some loose time schedules and frameworks to work around.

There should be lots of time during the day to play, there should be opportunity to learn some life and home skills, and there should be time to read. We want to be able to get quality learning out of our children, but we have to remember the social and emotional factors that affect our kids on a daily basis. 

Chey and Pav offer some strategies that can be employed once distance learning begins for them in the home, and how to go about creating a working atmosphere that works for everyone in the household.

For Episode 27, Chey and Pav go way out of the box to conduct their very first guest Interview on the podcast. And ultimately, it was an incredible guest! Evo Hannan, from the Agents for Agency global movement joined the Dynamic Duo to talk about his upcoming Webinar "Agency Ed Talks" on March 28, 2020 live from Dubai. 

Evo outlines some very crucial points during his conversation with Chey and Pav. He starts by talking about the origins of the Agency, and how it evolved over time. He then discusses the loss he experienced from the cancellations of his worldwide tour to deliver his message, and what he needed to do in order to bounce back from that kind of monumental setback. 

He wraps up the chat with Chey and Pav by talking about what the future holds for The Agency - and where he will go into the future with his message. Evo's positive and upbeat attitude proves to be quite infections for Chey and Pav as they wrap up their discussion.

In Episode 26, Chey and Pav talk about some of the challenges they faced this week when having to prepare for shutting schools down for preventative measures surrounding COVID-19. They discuss some of the Social Emotional learning that is affected when students have a hard time understanding what is going on. Student stress and anxiety can sometimes be too much to bear, and they need a lot of reassurance that all will be fine. As teachers, Chey and Pav talk about their responsibilities in ensuring that students are receiving information, and are are being supported in terms of their Social Emotional learning. 

They also discuss many of the ways they have been supporting students before leaving for a long period of time with regards to school work. Chey and Pav talk about several things they did on the last day of school to support students with their learning. From allowing them to borrow books and writing supplies, to providing paint and canvas paper so that they can engage in self-directed activities while off. 

The duo also talked about the many equity challenges they face as a school in an underprivileged area with respect to e-learning. As much as they would like to be able to send students home with online work, they are unable to because students would not all have access.
