All the kings of Israel and Judah failed to lead the people into righteousness because all of them, even the best, were fallen sinners who did not always rule wisely or righteously. Likewise, God's prophets, though they consistently called God's people to repentant and renewed faith, were never able to produce these things in the people to whom they preached God's Word. Thus, the kings and prophets of the Old Testament point out the need for a better king and a better prophet, one who rules in righteousness and makes his people righteous as well. Jesus is the perfect King and Prophet who perfectly meets that need.

Jesus fulfilled the Law's moral commandments, established a new covenant, and fulfilled the sacrificial Law.

God redeemed His people from slavery by the blood of the lamb and took them through the water into new life. He also went with them, giving them bread from heaven and water from the rock during every day of their wilderness wanderings. God saves us the same way, giving us in Jesus Christ the true things, of which these were only a shadow and a picture.

Just as God's grace saved Israel's sinful sons through the brother they hated (Gen. 37-50), Jesus is the true Son of Israel, who saved us, his sinful brothers, when we were His enemies (Rom 5:8-11)

God chose Abraham & blessed him to be a blessing to all nations, confirmed his covenant with Abraham & provided a living picture of the blessing Abraham was promised. Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of all God's promises to Abraham.

God will judge human sin & evil. But, he offers salvation to those who believe His Word. God's judgment cleansed evil from the world...for a little while. But, Jesus brings permanent salvation from eternal judgment & a permanent end to evil.

One act of human rebellion produced separation from God, from one another, from our created purpose, from nature, and from ourselves. But one act of obedience by Jesus Christ redeems all our sin and brokenness.
