In our chat, we discuss her unique perspective of Taiwan and China. On the surface there appears to be rising tensions but could there also be rising friendship? We explore the history of Taiwanese and Chinese relations in trade, diplomacy, and culture. We also touch on US influence on Taiwan and if at this point it's in Taiwan's best interest. Most interestingly, Oung explains the rising discontent of Taiwan's youth propelling a heterodox political leader to the forefront of Taiwan to shake things up. Finally, we go back even further in history to examine Sun Yat-sen who is revered by both sides and could potentially be a unifying political symbol for the future of Chinese and Taiwanese relations.
