It’s not just conservative media slamming the city. The New York Times, the Economist, even British-based publications like the Independent and Sunday Times have run recent stories on the state of San Francisco, ranging from its highly visible housing issues to its shoplifting problems.

“Why San Francisco’s city government is so dysfunctional,” reads a headline from the Economist. “Crime is basically legal in San Francisco,” says another headline from the Daily Mail. The New York Times, meanwhile, just ran an article stating that “the mundane crime of shoplifting has spun out of control in San Francisco, forcing some chain stores to close.” 

Ian Davis, a professor of media studies at UC Berkeley, told SFGATE, “Yes, San Francisco's progressive image in the American mind makes it a prime target for conservatives to criticize. It often functions as a symbol of liberal or Democratic policies.”

Beginning next year, iPhone users who are in a car accident could have their phone dial 911 automatically.

Apple plans next year to roll out a product feature called “crash detection” for iPhones and Apple Watches, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the feature.

Crash detection uses data from sensors built into Apple devices including the accelerometer to detect car accidents as they occur, for instance by measuring a sudden spike in gravity, or “g,” forces on impact.

The feature would mark the latest move by Apple and its competitors to use motion-sensor technology to build safety functions into their devices.

Days after San Francisco Pride elected its first majority-trans board and re-elected its longest-tenured Black president, Netflix released “The Closer,” the latest standup special by Dave Chappelle. Several weeks later, the fallout continues over its homophobic and transphobic content. Now the comic is coming to the Chase Center on Nov. 4 for a show.       

The problem with this isn’t one of free speech. It’s that fundamentally, Chappelle sees LGBTQ+ people and Black people as distinct entities whose very existence is at odds with one another. Chappelle’s words completely erase the existence and the work that Black LGBTQ+ people have undertaken for decades in our communities. 

While he attempts to make valid points about anti-blackness in the LGBTQ+ community, he fails — because he simply doesn’t have the depth to be able to frame this conversation about who gets access to LGBTQ+ success.

Brian Walsh, SoFi Manager of Financial Planning and Student Loan Expert

 In March 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic struck, the White House ordered the suspension of payments, interest, and collections on most federally held student loans. The most recent extension of the moratorium for more than 40 million borrowers will expire on January 31, 2022.

The goal of the extension is to allow borrowers to plan for the resumption of payments and reduce the risk of delinquency and defaults after restart. The extension also provides borrowers time to consider their repayment options ahead of rising interest rates.

Just two days ago, A pilot from SW airlines, speaking over the PA said Let's Go Brandon.

Alex Stone, ABC Senior Correspondent, reports that American is the latest airline to deal with cancellations and delays. Things seem to be slightly better today. On Sunday American cancelled over a thousand flights. Today it’s closer to 300 as of this morning. Like Southwest Airlines a few weeks ago, American says this is not a result of flight crews walking off the job despite claims to the contrary by some on social media. Rather, this is a result of extreme winds shutting down runways at Dallas/Ft Worth late last week. Then planes and flight crews were in the wrong cities and the system fell apart. American says the problem will get better as more than 1800 flight attendants who were off the job during the pandemic happen to be returning today. The airlines say this is a result of bad weather mixed with tight staffing as they come back from the pandemic and have trouble finding labor.
