The CHoopin It Up Podcast

Only a 2 host kinda podcast for this one but we got into plenty of great sports topics including Paige Buecker's knee injury, the college football playoff & coaching carousel, Brian Kelly's sudden southern-ness, & finally we had 99.9% of die hard Michigan football fan's sentiments epitomized by our own Michigan fan Jack Kelly after this return to prominence season for the Wolverines!

The battle between Hoop & Galli started a few episodes back. Some things were said, some trash was talked & now the time has come to play the game. We decided to take the time to record a podcast prior to the game. Enjoy

Co-host Matt Tanner could not be with us when we recorded this episode so Steve Galli was gracious enough to fill in this week. Will it be permanent, tune in next week. But we recorded this one the night before high school football kicked off here in NEPA so this episode was built around football which means we needed to get a guest that fit the topic. Well, Tanner was getting the guest too so we had to scramble which led us to talking to Tommy's former roommate at Syracuse University Matt Sweet. Matt worked with Florida State football as an athletic trainer during his undergrad & with Syracuse football with Tommy when he was a graduate assistant. Interesting conversation, very smart guy, & we has nice enough to attempt to diagnose our injuries over the phone. Can't thank Matt enough for joining us. Definitely worth a listen & a share.

We might be a little late to the party but we discuss some of the biggest winners & losers from the 1st 2 weeks of NBA free agency including the Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, & New York Knicks to name a few. We also ask our resident 76ers fan what in the hell are they doing with Ben Simmons. We also give our way too early Superbowl predictions. Finally we talk about Quinn Ewers leaving high school to make money for his NIL & how will this effect high school sports going forward?

In this one, we reconvened on the deck to talk about whether or not LA Angels outfielder/ace pitcher Shohei Ohtani is a look at the future of Major League Baseball & Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Our guy John Runco calls to give another report card live on air. While we had him we introduced our newest segment "CHoopin It Up Trivia" & asked him about his cousin being named the Pennsylvania 3A softball Player of the Year. Then we got to the main event where West Scranton graduate, former East Stroudsburg University standout wide receiver, & former Arizona Cardinal/New York Jet Evan Prall joined us to talk about his playing career on all levels, his coaching experiences & most importantly his go-to ice cream places. Can't thank him enough for bearing with us while we had to move all our equipment to avoid lightning and potential death. Great conversation & definitely worth a listen.

NEPA native & Valley View High School grad Max Kranick made his Major League debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates & threw 5 perfect innings before a rain delay ended his day. Ben Simmons opted out of playing with Team Australia in the Olympics to focus on skill development which led our own 76ers fan to announce that he is done with him. The whole time we had Steve Galli on deck with us because he wanted to call Hooper out in person for saying he let him score 30 points in the 2019 Mid Valley alumni basketball game. We also call our good buddy Joe "The Animal" Bour to join the show for the last 20 minutes or so.

Hoop hurts his back & Matt had an awful time watching the Philadelphia 76ers blow a 22 point halftime lead in person Wednesday night. Also, Mid Valley Head Softball Coach Mike Piercy calls in before his team travels to Penn State to play in the PIAA 3A softball state championship tomorrow. He talks about his time trying to help Matt put on weight, his time as a freshman football coach, & his softball program from start to current day.

As of recording this, Kevin Durant & the Brooklyn Nets look like the team to beat in the NBA playoffs. They are making easy work of the Milwaukee Bucks through 2 games. The Phoenix Suns are also starting to show themselves as the potential team to beat in the West. In NFL news, Aaron Rodgers still not showing up in Green Bay & Julio Jones is now a Tennessee Titan. Former Mid Valley baseball/basketball player & golfer Aaron Polon also joins the show.
