The Large Hadron Collider suffered a devastating blow just yesterday. The infrastructure of the LHC powered down, the reason, because of a “weasel.” However, there is reason to believe that the LHC shutdown not because of a weasel, but because they shook the planet with a violent earthquake. CERN shook the world yesterday like a drunkard.

A power outage, that is why the world’s largest and scientific experiment came to a halt. The luckless weasel decided to chew on a 66-kilovolt power cable; eventually bringing the LHC to its knees. While it is quite possible, this could be the reasoning that the LHC shut down. There is a lot more to question in this case.

Amid a moribund economy and reduced levels of consumer spending, the Fed on Wednesday again opted not to raise interest rates.

"Economic activity appears to have slowed," the Federal Open Market Committee said in a statement released after its two-day meeting this week. "Growth in household spending has moderated, although households' real income has risen at a solid rate and consumer sentiment remains high."

The statement highlighted the many conflicting signs in the U.S. economy – consistent job growth and an improving housing market against slowdowns in business investment and exports. Indeed, the Atlanta Fed has estimated that economic growth slowed to just 0.6 percent in the first quarter of 2016, a condition reflected in the Fed's lukewarm assessment of conditions.

Several computer viruses have been detected in a German nuclear power plant in Bavaria, the station operator said. The malware can steal login credentials and allow a remote attacker to access the cracked computer.

The incident took place at Gundremmingen plant about 100km from Munich.

“In Gundremmingen nuclear power plant so-called office-malware has been found during … testing work in Unit B,” a statement released by the power plant said.

Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) was immediately informed.

The statement initially didn’t mention what kind of malware was involved, only saying this software has been “known for a few years” and is designed to make “an unwanted connection to the internet.”

Later, RWE, a German electric utilities company that runs the plant, confirmed to Reuters the viruses include “W32.Ramnit” and “Conficker”. They were found in a computer system retrofitted in 2008 with data visualization software.

The worms were also found in at least 18 removable data drives, mainly in USB sticks and office computers maintained separately from the plant system, the company added.

NEW YORK -- A former National Security Agency official turned whistleblower has spent almost a decade and a half in civilian life. And he says he's still "pissed" by what he's seen leak in the past two years.

In a lunch meeting hosted by Contrast Security founder Jeff Williams on Wednesday, William Binney, a former NSA official who spent more than three decades at the agency, said the US government's mass surveillance programs have become so engorged with data that they are no longer effective, losing vital intelligence in the fray.

Founded in 1998, it was a niche at what was then the Nevada Test Site for emergency responders to learn how to deal with disasters caused by weapons of mass destruction.

Since then, about 180,000 firefighters, police officers, public safety officials and hazardous materials technicians from all corners of the United States have completed courses that teach them how to detect, prevent and react to an unthinkable act involving radioactive or hazardous materials to harm civilian populations.

In a few months this Center for Radiological/Nuclear Training will enter a new, international dimension as police officers from eastern Europe and elsewhere outside the U.S. descend on a one-of-a-kind training facility in Area 1 at the Nevada National Security Site, 85 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Known as “T-1,” the site is unique because it was ground zero for the Apple-2 nuclear test, a large-scale civil defense experiment in 1955 that used an atomic bomb placed on a tower to blow up buildings and structures in “Survival Town.” The blast delivered an explosive yield equivalent to 29,000 tons of TNT, or 8,000 more than the nuclear blast at Nagasaki, Japan, in 1945, the second and last time a nuclear weapon was used in combat.

Experts with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said the state is due for a damaging earthquake.

“We’re in line within the next few years, 50 years or so, of having an event that will cause damage in Tennessee,” said Cecil Whaley, earthquake program manager with TEMA. “It’s just a question of what day it will happen, it’s not if it will happen.”

Eight states border the earthquake zone known as the New Madrid Fault Line, including Tennessee and Kentucky. Those states are the most likely to sustain serious damage.

“What will happen in Tennessee is the land in West Tennessee will drop maybe 10, 15, 20 feet, and then rise back up again,” Whaley said. “Therefore, you’ll have buildings that will be tending to tip over into each other or down, as opposed to cracking into fissures, which is what you have in California and Ecuador and Japan.”

Over ten thousand banks and financial institutions are being urged to remain vigilant after the secure Swift (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) system – used to send messages between global firms – was reportedly compromised by the sophisticated hacking scheme that targeted the Bangladesh central bank in March 2016.

The news comes after security researchers at British defence contractor BAE Systems claimed to have uncovered a stealthy piece of malware used in the Bangladesh attack, which resulted in the loss of $81m (£56m, €71m). Previously, investigators said that cybercriminals broke into the bank's computer networks to steal vital access credentials. However, fresh research claims that Swift was also likely compromised during the hack in order to erase records of malicious financial transfers.

The United States of America is fast asleep, and most citizens are too concerned with their cell phones and social media to consider the possibility that a world exists outside of their virtual one, and that world is rapidly deteriorating. Even within the US’ borders they wander about aimlessly not concerned with anything other than what is directly in front of them, which is often their cell phone. On average eighty-five times a day an American checks their phone, spending more than one-third of the entire day attached to their device and detached from reality. However, some may be concerned with the world around them, so often while using their phone, they check the news and share the concern that something is drastically wrong with the physical world. Which it is, something is wrong in the world, something is wrong within the borders of the United States, but most will fail to realize that before it is too late.

The Israeli government and Jewish groups have expressed outrage at a resolution adopted by the U.N. cultural agency that put the Western Wall Plaza in quotation marks, described Jewish sites as “so-called” and even claimed that some Jewish graves were bogus.

The resolution , sponsored by several Arab countries and adopted by UNESCO’s 58-nation executive board last week, condemned the Israeli government’s stewardship of east Jerusalem, home to the city’s most sensitive holy sites.

The April 15 document also decried the renovation of “so-called Jewish ritual baths” and the alleged creation of “Jewish fake graves.” Sites were either referred to by their Arabic or English names or, in the case of the Western Wall Plaza, the holiest site where Jews can pray, were put in quotes.
