Over ten thousand banks and financial institutions are being urged to remain vigilant after the secure Swift (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) system – used to send messages between global firms – was reportedly compromised by the sophisticated hacking scheme that targeted the Bangladesh central bank in March 2016.

The news comes after security researchers at British defence contractor BAE Systems claimed to have uncovered a stealthy piece of malware used in the Bangladesh attack, which resulted in the loss of $81m (£56m, €71m). Previously, investigators said that cybercriminals broke into the bank's computer networks to steal vital access credentials. However, fresh research claims that Swift was also likely compromised during the hack in order to erase records of malicious financial transfers.

In an attempt to kill Asian and European gypsy moths, the Washington State Department of Agriculture has approved a pesticide-bacteria spraying program to be used OVER the city of Seattle. Scary.

Residents oppose the program and rightly so; many remember the US government testing harmful bacteria on civilians (the 1966 Navy Operation Sea Spray). The citizens of Seattle would be wise to test the state, ask questions, demand answers, and maybe even run independent third party tests on the chemicals (a bacteria with pesticide properties called Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), the same bacteria gene commonly used in GM crops to kill insects).

According to KOMO News, the moths are invasive and have ferocious appetites for maple, oak, and foliage from trees and plants. The Department of Agriculture is worried about the amount of damage the moths could cause and the economic and environmental implications that would ensue.

The term ‘geoengineering’ describes this array of technologies that aim, through large-scale and deliberate modifications of the Earth’s energy balance, to reduce temperatures and counteract anthropogenic climate change. Most of these technologies are at the conceptual and research stages, and their effectiveness at reducing global temperatures has yet to be proven. Moreover, very few studies have been published that document the cost, environmental effects, socio-political impacts, and legal implications of geoengineering. If geoengineering technologies were to be deployed, they are expected to have the potential to cause significant transboundary effects.

In general, geoengineering technologies are categorized as either a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) method or a solar radiation management (SRM) (or albedo-modification)method. CDR methods address the warming effects of greenhouse gases by removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. CDR methods include ocean fertilization, and carbon capture and sequestration. SRM methods address climate change by increasing the reflectivity of the Earth’s atmosphere or surface.

Confirming death used to be straightforward, according to the NHS. It was said to occur when the heart stopped beating and a person was unresponsive and no longer breathing.

The lack of oxygen, which occurred as a result of no blood flow, quickly led to the permanent loss of brain stem function.

But now confirming death is more complicated, because it's possible to keep the heart beating after the brain stem has permanently stopped functioning.

This can be done by keeping a person on a ventilator, which allows the body and heart to be artificially oxygenated, for example.

In the UK and the US, among other countries, a person is confirmed as being dead when their brain stem function is permanently lost. Being brain dead is widely accepted to be just as final as cardiac death.

Eight members of the same family have been killed in four Ohio locations, according to the state's Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The shooter is either on the loose or one of the deceased, law enforcement said.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader described the shootings as “execution-style” in a statement Friday afternoon.

This is not an active shooter situation, however no arrests have been made,” the statement read. “The investigation is in its very early states, and authorities are still investigating to determine a motive, identify the deceased, and determine if the gunman is among the deceased individuals or on the loose.”

The preliminary indications are that none of the shooting deaths were a suicide, and it is increasingly likely that the shooter is not among the deceased, DeWine told WLW’s Bill Cunningham. Some very young children, including one or two babies, were removed from the four homes.

During the recent surge of tens of thousands of young illegal immigrants crossing the Mexico-U.S. border, the Centers for Disease Control warned staff that many will be infected with tuberculosis — but the public wasn't given a head's up.

In fact, the young adults, few of whom had received the types of vaccines U.S. children received, arrived with TB, swine flu and even Dengue, according to reports that eventually filtered out of border agents and hospitals on or near the U.S. border.

The internal warning was: "We might as well plan on many of the kids having TB." It was included in June 2014 email guidance from environmental health scientist Alaric C. Denton as the agency prepared to handle the crisis, which was repeated in 2015 and is expected again this year.

"Most of these kids are not immunized, so we need to make sure all our staff are immunized," said Denton, who is stationed at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, according to a new document obtained by the watchdog group Judicial Watch and released Thursday.

Europeans will soon have to start solving defense-related problems on their own, as the United States is becoming increasingly disappointed in NATO, according to US geopolitical analyst George Friedman.

In his recent speech, US Presidential hopeful Donald Trump said Europe isn't paying its "fair share" of contributions to the NATO budget and he certainly wouldn't be sad to see the military alliance dissolved.

"The foundations of NATO have dissolved. Europe's financial commitment to NATO is not credible. The willingness of the US to operate within the constraints of NATO is long gone," Friedman said, according to Business Insider.

When NATO was first founded, it had a clear mission to defend Western Europe from the Soviet Union. But after the fall of the Soviet Union, the alleged danger for Europeans was no longer there. NATO, however, continued to exist, although it was clear the military alliance had lost its raison d'etat.
