As always, there’s a ton to talk about in the Chrome and Google universe this week, but we’re focused in a few key things. First up, we’re talking about the latest leaks surrounding the Pixel 4 that include a 90hz display, 6GB of RAM, and a possible DSLR-like camera attachment for the king of camera phones.
We also spend some time talking about the next Stadia Connect coming soon and some of the ways that players will interact with the entire experience once it becomes available. Finally, we spend some time discussing Wi-Fi 6, why it matters and when you can expect to see the benefits of it in real life. Oh yeah, we also take a few minutes to talk through the addition of Virtual Desks in Chrome OS 77 Dev Channel and how it actually feels to use this new feature to get stuff done.

So much has happened in the last week since our last podcast, so we’re only focusing in on the big stuff. With Google leaking out more details on the upcoming Pixel 4 and its new face unlock and Motion Sense tech, we’re talking about the implications for Chromebooks, starting with ‘Atlas’ at the upcoming Google hardware event.
We also spend quite a bit of time discussing new updates on Stadia, a probable Stadia Connect in the next few weeks, and a handful of questions around how the whole thing will work for users who only have a Chromecast Ultra, the Stadia controller and a TV. Thanks for listening!

Not surprisingly, this week’s episode of The Chrome Cast circled around Google’s upcoming hardware event, it’s timing, and the enigma known only as ‘Atlas’. Talking through the recent decision by Google to ‘leak’ the Pixel 4, an FCC filing for a new Chromebook by Google, and a leaked-retracted-confirmed date for the launch date of the Nest Home Hub all make for a pretty compelling case that Google might just surprise us all with an earlier hardware event this year.
We additionally spend some time talking through not just the addition of LTE coming in a broader sense to Chromebook, but the impact that move will have on the industry. Finally, we talk new, Chrome OS-specific keyboards from companies like Logitech and the importance of this new trend. Oh, and we had to at least mention 4-finger swipes coming for Virtual Desks!

This week on The Chrome Cast, we spend a good bit of time talking about the present and future of gaming on Chromebooks. As Stadia continues looming over the future, there are already a few games for Chromebooks that are taking full advantage of the Chromebook form factor and all it brings to the table. With keyboards, mice, and larger screens, Chromebooks are a great target for developers to attract new, untapped audiences if they decide to take the platform seriously.
Additionally, we’re talking about quite a few new features that are either here or on the way for Chromebooks from password management to dark mode in Chrome for Android. Finally, we discuss what for us at Chrome Unboxed is probably the most exciting thing: a new Samsung Chromebook Pro in the works currently going by the codename ‘Kohaku’. Thanks for listening!

The Chrome Cast is back at it this week, and our discussion is dominated by Google’s upcoming ‘Atlas’ Chromebook that we feel sure will either be the Pixelbook 2 or at least in the Pixelbook family of devices. So many things about ‘Atlas’ are confusing and could point to various end games for Google, but we feel like we’ll get some real answers soon.
Additionally, we’re talking about yet another addition to the ‘Hatch’ family of devices that goes by the name of ‘Kled’, the release, pause, re-release, and eventual full release of Chrome OS 75, Amazon Prime Videos getting Chromecast support, and some killer deals on fantastic Chromebooks as we approach Amazon Prime Day. Enjoy!

Based on that title, you can probably guess what we talked about this week. From all angles, the last part of 2019 looks primed to deliver a vast army of Chrome OS devices on every front. We have ‘Hatch’-based Chromebooks, Snapdragon 845 Chromebooks, MediaTek 8183 Chromebooks, and maybe even AMD flagships coming in the next 5 months. All these additions to the landscape will likely change the consumer Chromebook market for the better and there’s a ton to consider when thinking about all this new hardware showing up in the space.
Additionally, we talked about Chrome OS 75 sputtering out the gate and the ensuing halt on updates, what we’re expecting to see in the highly-anticipated Chrome OS 76 update, and a great deal available to YouTube TV subscribers.

This week on The Chrome Cast, our discussion time circled mainly around Google, Pixelbook, and what a new commit in the repositories could mean for the future of the Pixelbook line from an affordability standpoint. With the removal of NVMe signaling a more affordable PIxelbook, could the Pixel 3a mindset end up permeating into Google's Chromebook efforts this year?
Additionally, we chat about the emergence of the baseboard 'Hatch' as this year's version of 'Nami', which gave us the Acer Chromebook Spin 13, HP Chromebook x360 14, Dell Inspiron Chromebook, Lenovo Yoga C630 in 2018. With 'Hatch', we have 'Helios', 'Kindred', and 'Kohaku' as boards all being derived from the same source and we're pretty confident we'll see these boards emerge from all the usual players in the fall of 2019.
