Psalms 9 and 10

Jesus admonished the religious leaders of his day for seeking the glory that comes from man, rather than the glory that comes from God. Jesus said that he sought the glory that comes from God and he did so by giving himself on the cross so that others could live. How do we avoid seeking the glory that comes from man? How do we seek God’s glory?

Psalm 37

John wrote that when a person sees Jesus, he or she sees the Father’s glory. But the glory of God didn’t manifest itself the way we might expect. God’s glory wasn’t manifest in bright light, power, or strength. God’s glory was manifest in meekness, humility, love, selflessness.

In the final lesson of this series, we will explore Jesus’ words, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” The primary characteristic of Jesus’ disciples should be love, love for God and love for others.

We focus on Jesus’ “new commandment” to love one another as he loved us. Not only did Jesus wash feet and give his life, but he also became flesh and dwelt among us. It’s impossible to love people unless you dwell with them.

What does it look like, in practical terms, to live out Jesus’ follow his example of washing feet? In what ways ought we to be involved in each other’s lives, serving one another, in order to fulfill Jesus’ calling?
