The church of Christ on McDermott Road

Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” This teaches us to not only pray for our bread, but the bread of others. This teaches us to not only seek forgiveness, but to extend forgiveness. This is the kind of prayer that unified people pray, which is exactly the sort of thing for which Jesus prayed in John 17. Are we praying for unity? Are we praying that God work in us to seek the welfare of others and extend to us the same type of forgiveness we extend to others? (Scripture: John 17:6-11)

Galatians 5

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In other words, we ought to pray for God’s name to be revered on the earth, his rule and reign to be established on the earth, and his will to be done on the earth. In the opening lines of John 17, those are exactly the sorts of things for which Jesus prayed. Do these themes permeate our prayers? (Scripture: John 17:1-5)

Colossians 3:12-15

"But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to celebrate. "

Luke 15:22-24

Matthew 11:25-30; 21:1-5

Our "Brighter Together" campaign is about more than expanding our building. "Brighter Together" is about embracing a vision of being a church family who is making room for our neighbors, a church family who is invested in sharing the Good News about Jesus with our neighborhood, and a church family who believes that by loving our neighbors in Jesus' name we can change the world one person at a time.
