Hi folks - for Christmas, we're supporting Action for Children - a charity that helps vulnerable children in the UK. The number of children living in poverty now equates to nine in an average class of 30. One in five are living with domestic abuse. And families are struggling to afford basics, like food and clothes.

The Secret Santas campaign helps pay for a child to have a hot meal, buy clothing to keep them warm during the winter months, or give them a safe place to sleep. They won't know who it was that made sure they were fed, or that they felt loved, but you'll know that you've made their Christmas that little bit brighter.

We're supporting Action for Children by donating 100% of our Patreon donations in December to the Secret Santas campaign. This means that if you're an existing patron, your donation will automatically be contributed to the charity and if you join as a new subscriber before the end of November, your first payment will go to this cause.

You can sign up at patreon.com/thecinemile, where you'll also receive access to our bonus podcast feed The Cinemile High Club, with more than twenty retro film and TV reviews.

Even if you don't want to sign up to that, we recommend supporting Action for Children if you can. You can donate any amount on their website here: https://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/

Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas!

Dave here. I'm hosting a new podcast exclusively for Spotify - it's a companion podcast for the BBC/HBO adaptation of His Dark Materials. Along with my co-host Helen O'Hara (Empire Film podcast), we'll be covering every episode of the show and we'll be joined by special guests from the cast and crew - for the first two episodes we'll be joined by Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon - The Wire/Master of Jordan College).
