Jerry Colosimo with BidWriteConsulting.com sat down with me to talk shop. Jerry works for restoration contractors performing on-site scope takeoffs and writing estimates in Xactimate.
It was great to talk with Jerry. He has more experience in restoration than I do and I appreciate that he didn't rub it in.
He and I mostly talked about what it means to hire someone to write your insurance repair estimates for you. I've written about the subject a couple times here and here, so I won't repeat myself.
What I will say is that it was real nice to sit down with Jerry and talk about the things we do. The struggles of entrepreneurship are the same, whether you are running a restaurant or a consulting business. There are a lot of ups & downs and a quite a bit of wondering whether what we're doing is right or wrong.
Both Jerry and I started our estimating businesses without knowing for sure whether the market would be receptive. I can say that my reception from the "establishment" was less than cordial at first. But we both pushed through, due in no small part to a group of restoration contractors and mentors who also believed what we believe: that there is more than one way to do things.
I would be remiss not to mention my good friend, George Simon, with Craftmaster Restoration. George hires Jerry to write his Xactimate estimates for the restoration projects he runs. George is also the reason I met Jerry in the first place. Craftmaster Restoration and George Simon are both wonderful examples of running a business from the heart based on principle and strong ethics. Thank you George and Jerry.
And thank YOU for reading and listening. If you enjoyed this episode and would like to hear more, please head over to Twitter and/or Facebook and let me know.
