Clarke County District Judge James Harding Morgan Jr. on Monday instituted a gag order on the case of a high school football coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a teenage girl. Morgan’s ruling came shortly after Clarke County High School head football coach Rob Carter had a bond hearing on the charges. Clarke County Assistant District Attorney Mason R. Capital murder defendant Devarian Raheem Edwards agreed to a plea deal Monday as the jury for his trial was being seated. Edwards, 29, of Moss Point, Miss., entered a guilty plea, including an admission of guilt in the murder of Scielar McKenzie on May 25, 2018. Following the plea, Circuit Court Judge Robert Montgomery sentenced Edwards to 31 years in prison, according to Clarke County District Attorney Steven Winters. Grove Hill’s Tanner Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in university studies from MSU’s College of Professional and Continuing Studies. Thomasville’s Haven Collins graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s of science degree from the College of Education, signifying a GPA between 3.5 and 3.79.
