The wrath of God is not like our wrath. It is sin’s destruction of human beings that brings about the furious love of God. So in God’s commitment to both justice and mercy, Jesus stands as our defense attorney, having borne the full weight of God’s righteous judgment on himself for us. Though we will mess up massively, again and again, our comfort is that we in Christ no longer stand accused.
