This is a story about a tortoise and his boy. And an examination of the structures and tenets of western religions and philosophies. A standalone and standout among the 41 books of Discworld, Small Gods is a must-read.

In this book we return to the power trio of Granny, Nanny, and Magrat as they immerse themselves in the magic of stories. Most of this book is very funny and full of great ideas, but it is marred by a through-line of cultural appropriation that feels like a severe misstep even at a 30 year remove.

We return to our good friend Death, who is told by our new favorite antagonists the Auditors that his services are no longer required, as he has become too close to those humans with all their chaotic emotions. With a spectacular b-plot from the wizards and a lot of complex emotions and meditations on death, life, and all the space in between, this is a good book.

In which Terry gives us simultaneously some decent cosmic horror and also just SO many Hollywood references. Nearly every other sentence is a deep cut or a riff on a bit of silver screen history.

The dunking continues, as we sort each other into necromantic houses and then cancel the 8th House by unanimous consent. Again, this is not a normal Discography episode.

Soooo several of us here are big fans of Tamsyn Muir's Locked Tomb trilogy and had to talk about Harrow. We invited a few guests (Jude Vais and Aly Grauer) to help with the screaming. If you haven't read Gideon or Harrow, please skip this and go read them.

Here we are--the first introduction to Sam and Sybil, Carrot, Colon, and Nobby. Vetinari is much more Vetinari-y. This is the entry point to Discworld for a LOT of fans, and it deserves every bit of praise.
