In this episode, we dive deep into the AFL’s rookie landscape and unpack the hype of first‑year players. Using three years of curated data, we break down the patterns behind rookie selection, the traps we keep falling into, and the surprising trends hiding beneath the surface.

We challenge the overuse of first‑year rookies, explore why they’re more volatile than people realise, and highlight which development pathways actually translate to early AFL success.
