We are continuing to show themes or threads that run through the Bible.  Erika is explaining who a prophet is and what his (or her) job description would be. 

God said there would be a prophet like Moses and then Scripture runs through a list of men who were not as great as Moses. Matthew then presents Jesus in a way that is similar to Mose to show Jesus is the prophet greater than Moses.

In preparation for Christmas, we brought Bryan VanHaitsma back into the studio (Erika's basement) to unpack that word "Nazarene."

 The words spoken in Matthew 2:23 sound like they should be from the Old Testament yet they aren't. Was Matthew adding to Scripture then when he said this?  Why did Matthew say it then?

We are going to be building a dictionary to go along with our study.  When the Hebrew words were translated into English, we lost some of the richness and depth behind those English words.

The word Erika is adding to the dictionary this week is righteous (tzedekah/tsedaqah/tsaddiq).

This is the last episode of our spotlight on covenants.  Erika is digging into the Davidic and the New covenant this week.   

The Davidic covenant is found in 2 Samuel 7, 1 Chronicles 17, and Jeremiah 33 and the New Covenant can be found in Deuteronomy 30, Jeremiah 31, and Ezekiel 36.  

Our Davidic covenant is episode #11.  Erika also referenced the Apocalyptic Gospel podcast.

Erika talked about two covenants last episode. This week she's unpacking the Mosaic and the Levitical covenant.

The Mosaic covenant is mentioned in Exodus 19, 24, 31, Deuteronomy 28, and Jeremiah 31.

The Levitical covenant is found in Numbers 25.

Erika built the large shelves we needed to understand the Old Testament.  Now in this episode, Erika is going to summarize the latter prophets.   She's going to show the story of the events before and after destruction of Jerusalem.  These books end with the hope is the best is yet to come.
