In April 2022, Vicky White, a respected Alabama corrections officer with an unblemished record, shocked her colleagues and the nation when she helped a murder suspect, Casey White (no relation), escape from the Lauderdale County Jail. Vicky, who was nearing retirement, told staff she was taking Casey for a mental health evaluation — a ruse that allowed her to escort him alone. Surveillance footage later showed the pair leaving the facility and driving off in a patrol car, which was later abandoned. Authorities soon discovered the entire story had been fabricated: no evaluation was scheduled, and Vicky had sold her home and stockpiled cash in the weeks leading up to the escape.
