DMB made its triumphant return to Richmond last week - the first time since 1997! It's also the pod's first sibling episode - Bruce's brother Jason recaps Richmond N1 with us - his first ever DMB concert! Virginia got one of the best two-nighters of the summer so far, and of course we had to talk SPAC and some of the insane tour debuts and treats that DMB loves to sprinkle in Saratoga. It's hard to believe it has been 20 years since the 2005 Summer Tour, which included Bruce's first show, 6/29/05! We revisit this show which includes some fantastic performances of DMB classics, several songs Bruce has not seen again in 60+ shows, an early glimpse into some songs from 'Stand Up' that sound much different today, some extremely rare teases, and a ton of nostalgia. This week on COGS we throw it back to 30 years ago in April 1995. Bruce & Nolan breakdown two of DMB's finest shows with the rare all-acoustic show at The Academy in New York on 4/5/95, days after the band's first trip to Europe. DMB then kicked off their spring tour in Durham, NC on 4/7/95 in fabled Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke. The two shows are known for the song debuts of #40 and #41, known as 41 Police at the time. There aren't too many artists that give off such infectious energy and joy on and off the stage that you can't help but smile. Add to that an artist that plays the bass and sings and sometimes even dives into pools to close a set. Karina Rykman is that one of a kind artist, and she was gracious enough to spend some time with us to reflect on her career as a whole, creating her debut album with Trey Anastasio, and of course opening the most recent Dave & Tim weekend down in Mexico.
