- Episode 036: (Rail) Austrailan Granville Train SmashThe Australian Granville Rail Smash occurred on Tuesday, January 18, 1977, at Granville, New South Wales, a western suburb of Sydney, when a crowded commuter train derailed, running into the supports of a road bridge that collapsed onto two of the train's passenger carriages. - Episode 035: (Air) Qantas Flight 72On October 7, 2008, an Airbus A330-300 Qantas Flight 72, suffered a rapid loss of altitude in two sudden, uncommanded pitch-down manoeuvres causing serious injuries while 80 nautical miles (150 km; 92 mi) from Learmonth, Australia. The aircraft safely landed in Learmonth, with 14 people requiring transportation by air ambulance to Perth. - Episode 034: (Rail) The Mississauga Miracle Of 1979The Mississauga train derailment of 1979, also known as the Mississauga Miracle occurred on Saturday, November 10, 1979, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, when a 106-car CP Rail freight train carrying chemicals and explosives including styrene, toluene, propane, caustic soda, and chlorine from Windsor, Ontario derailed. As a result of the derailment, more than 200,000 people were evacuated in what became the largest peacetime evacuation in North America until Hurricane Katrina. - Episode 031: (Air) British Airways Flight 9On 24 June 1982, British Airways Flight 9 was flown by the City of Edinburgh, a Boeing 747-200. The aircraft flew into a cloud of volcanic ash thrown up by the eruption of Mount Galunggung (approximately 110 miles or180 km south-east of Jakarta, Indonesia), resulting in the failure of all four engines. The reason for the failure was not immediately apparent to the crew or air traffic control. The aircraft was diverted to Jakarta in the hope that enough engines could be restarted to allow it to land there. - Episode 029: (Road) 2015 Michigan I-94 PileupOn January 9th, 2015, near Kalamazoo, Michigan, a pile-up involving 193 vehicles occurred in snowy conditions. One truck was carrying 44,000 pounds of hazardous material causing an evacuation in a mile wide radius. Another truck was carrying fireworks, which could be heard exploding after the crash. - Episode 028: (Rail) The Poop Train of 2018In late January 2018, a train carrying about 10 million pounds of human excrement from New York City stopped in the small town of Parrish, Louisiana with 982 residents. From the day it got there, residents noticed. Due to an injunction from the nearby town of West Jefferson, arguing in court earlier in the year that the loading and unloading of containers violated its zoning laws, the train sat for over 2 months in Parrish, disrupting the lives of everyone in town. - Episode 027: (Water) The SS Marine ElectricOn February 12, 1983 the SS Marine Electric sank about 30 miles off the coast of Virginia, in 130 feet of water. Thirty-one of the 34 crewmembers were killed; the three survivors endured 90 minutes drifting in the frigid waters of the Atlantic. The wreck resulted in some of the most important maritime reforms in the second half of the 20th century. - Episode 025: (Air) Ansett New Zealand Flight 703Ansett New Zealand Flight 703 was an Ansett New Zealand scheduled passenger transport flight from Auckland Airport to Palmerston North. On June 9, 1995, the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 aircraft flying this route crashed into hilly terrain in the Tararua Ranges, 10 miles (16 km) east of Palmerston North airport, during an instrument approach in bad weather. The aircraft was carrying 18 passengers and 3 crew members. All passengers were New Zealand citizens except for one United States citizen. About The Cornfield Meet: Transportation Disasters

Transportation disasters occurred every day across the world. Most disasters are learned from which makes travel safer for everyone today. We tell the story of these disasters so they will not be forgotten.
A "cornfield meet" is an old term used where two steam trains collide head-on in a field out in the country. We use this term to represent the meeting of transportation with a disaster.
