  • Paper 180 - The Farewell Discourse - Jesus' Last Discourse To His Apostles
Are you in the mood for meaning this week? Are you hungry to be inspired by the words of Christ as we head into the renewal of Easter and the promise of springtime? It's been a long, cold winter and we're all ready for the promise of new life and the effulgent joy of spring. So celebrate with us this week on the Cosmic Citizen, in honor of Easter and in memory of Jesus, as we read Paper 180 from The Urantia Book, The Farewell Discourse. This paper is sublimely touching, superbly meaningful, eternally valuable, and deeply profound! The paper retells what Jesus said to his associates, knowing that he was soon to leave them. It covers these amazing sections: 1. The New Commandment: That his followers would love one another even as he loved them, and by doing so, all men would know that they were his disciples. 2. The Vine and the Branches: A timeless metaphor depicting the Sons of God being as branches on Jesus, the living vine. 3. Enmity of the World: His beautiful admonition that they not be discouraged when faint-hearted believers turn away from their faith and against them. 4. The Promised Helper: His promise to pour out the Spirit of Truth upon all flesh, a gift that would work together with God's indwelling spirit to help them remember all that he had taught them. 5. The Spirit of Truth: An explanation of The Spirit of Truth and how it helps humans interpret their experiences in a spiritual way. 6. The Necessity for Leaving: "If I go not away, the new teacher cannot come into your hearts. I must be divested of this mortal body and be restored to my place on high before I can send this spirit teacher to live in your souls and lead your spirits into the truth." We hope you tune-in and enjoy this exquisite paper with us and invite you to call to share your thoughts on the teachings!

Jesus taught not so much from the law as from life, by parables. (And when he employed a parable for illustrating his message, he designed to utilize just one feature of the story for that purpose. • A Guardian Angel Testifies On Living Through The Dichotomy Of Life On Earth
Two weeks ago we finished a reading of Paper 111 from The Urantia Book, The Adjuster And The Soul. We love this paper for so many reason and we're not alone. It's cherished by many Urantia Book readers. This paper ends with a section in which a Guardian Angel presents a formal statement in extenuation of the difficulties of ministering to her mortal subject on this most challenging and difficult world. This seraphim reports on the unending conflict between the two natures of her subject. Among other things she laments: the urge of ambition opposed by animal indolence; the progressive plans of an ascending being modified by the desires and longings of a material nature; the flashes of universe intelligence cancelled by the chemical-energy mandates of the evolving race; the urge of angels opposed by the emotions of an animal; the training of an intellect annulled by the tendencies of instinct; the experience of the individual opposed by the accumulated propensities of the race; the aims of the best overshadowed by the drift of the worst; the flight of genius neutralized by the gravity of mediocrity; the progress of the good retarded by the inertia of the bad; the art of the beautiful besmirched by the presence of evil; the buoyancy of health neutralized by the debility of disease; the fountain of faith polluted by the poisons of fear; the spring of joy embittered by the waters of sorrow; the gladness of anticipation disillusioned by the bitterness of realization; the joys of living ever threatened by the sorrows of death. She ends by exclaiming, "Such a life on such a planet!" These dichotomies are a painful reality to us on this world. This week we want to explore how we might overcome some of these challenges to live a richer and happier life, a life in true partnership with God.

  • The Adjuster and the Soul Paper 111--Part 3 : Problem, Paradox, & Consecration
The Cosmic Citizen finishes our exploration of the God within in Paper 111:5 - 7.  111:5.1 "The doing of the will of God is nothing more or less than an exhibition of creature willingness to share the inner life with God — with the very God who has made such a creature life of inner meaning-value possible. Sharing is Godlike — divine. God shares all with the Eternal Son and the Infinite Spirit, while they, in turn, share all things with the divine Sons and spirit Daughters of the universes." We consecrate our choice to the doing of God's will not by negating our will but by empowering ourselves to choose God's will. 111:6.8 "It is only natural that mortal man should be harassed by feelings of insecurity as he views himself inextricably bound to nature while he possesses spiritual powers wholly transcendent to all things temporal and finite. Only religious confidence — living faith — can sustain man amid such difficult and perplexing problems."  The Human Paradox.   111:7.1 "Uncertainty with security is the essence of the Paradise adventure — uncertainty in time and in mind, uncertainty as to the events of the unfolding Paradise ascent; security in spirit and in eternity, security in the unqualified trust of the creature son in the divine compassion and infinite love of the Universal Father; uncertainty as an inexperienced citizen of the universe; security as an ascending son in the universe mansions of an all-powerful, all-wise, and all-loving Father." 111:7.5 "Such a life on such a planet!"  But with our ever-faithful, ever-wise, and ever-loving Thought Adjuster we can exclaim how great is that life we now llve and willingly give back to our Father in the form of service to our fellows! Please join us and call in!
