The Counter Culture Mom Show with Tina Griffin

Who is God? The nature and the character of God form the foundation of how we view Him, so it is integral that we, as Christians, understand what God says about Himself. Ava Pennington says that without understanding this, a Christian’s foundation is shaky and runs the risk of moving in the wrong direction. Ava is a Bible teacher, author, and speaker who has spent tremendous time studying the many names and attributes of God. She emphasizes studying who God says He is, not what the world says He is or who we think He should be. In her devotional, Reflections on the Name of God, she asks three key questions: what does God say about Himself, how do God’s attributes change our relationship with Him, and how does it change our relationships with other people?

TAKEAWAYS

We often approach God based on who we THINK He should be, not who He IS

When we use Jesus’s name in prayer, we should do so with the utmost reverence and respect

Why not take God at His own Word? He’s proven Himself faithful and true

Understand the tactics of the enemy, but more importantly, understand God’s perspective and His words

When was the last time you heard a sermon preached about the Divine Council or the angelic stewards of ancient times? Chances are, you haven’t. These supernatural elements within the Bible are often skipped or dodged by modern churches, but not by Dr. Joel Muddamalle, a theologian and author. He discusses Deuteronomy 32, as well as other references to angels, the Divine Council, and God’s scattering of the human nations. Joel connects the dots between the Old Testament and the New Testament, clearly giving explanations about angels, demons, and more by digging into the Word of God. Joel also issues a warning about exploring spiritual topics: keep Christ at the center of everything and remain sober-minded (1 Peter 5:8).

TAKEAWAYS

God’s relationship with Adam and Eve in the Garden was extremely familial and intimate

Beware of taking neutral things and turning them idolatrous

Don’t trust teaching on the spiritual realm that doesn’t magnify Christ and keep Him at the center of everything

Angels have a limited taxonomy within Scripture, meaning there is a narrow classification system of each type and class

An unseen battle rages all around us: a spiritual war between the two families within God’s house. Dr. Joel Muddamalle carefully explains this Biblical cosmic worldview, cutting through the noise of conspiracies, in his theological book, The Unseen Battle: Spiritual Warfare, the Three Rebellions, and Christ’s Victory Over Dark Powers. Based heavily on his dissertation at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Joel’s book was overseen by the famed Dr. Michael Heiser. In it, Joel discusses the reality of the spiritual realm, moving it from the hypothetical to the forefront of everyday life. Christians have the answers to burning spiritual questions in today’s confused society, Joel says. Spirits? Supernatural events? Cosmic phenomenon? The Bible explains everything, and we must be prepared to give an answer.

TAKEAWAYS

The world likes to separate the physical realm from the spiritual realm, but it is all interconnected

The term ‘image’ or ‘likeness of God’ in the Bible refers to the ‘children of the royal king’

God has a two-family household: a household of faith and a human household

The ‘Sons of Man’ mentioned in the Bible refer to the angelic beings who cohabited with human women in ancient times

In the Bible, the Amorites are an ancient, Canaanite people, described as extremely powerful warriors who clashed often with the Israelites in the Old Testament. Believe it or not, the Amorites may have had a settlement beyond the Middle East. According to Fritz Zimmerman, an explorer and writer, the Amorites were likely the advanced tribe behind the mysterious and extremely complex Ohio Mounds and earthworks, thought to be thousands of years old. These ancient burial mounds have been found to hold skeletons, as well as cremated remains. Fritz describes the advanced mathematics that would have gone into creating these earthworks. He also compares unusual human skulls found in Stonehenge to seemingly identical skulls found in Ohio. How did the Amorites end up in North America? Some were scattered there after the Flood, Fritz notes, and absorbed into the Dakota, a Native American tribe within the broader Sioux.

TAKEAWAYS

Fritz says the skulls in Ohio and across the ocean in Stonehenge suggest a different supernatural species

The burial mounds in Ohio are extremely famous, and many are World Heritage Sites

Some believe that the untethered souls of these Nephilim Amorites still roam Ohio, sparking supernatural phenomena

The Amorites controlled Babylon for several centuries before their rule was ended by the Hittites

What if the thrilling stories of Enoch, Noah, David, and Joshua could come to life in the pages of an epic novel? This is the dream that Brian Godawa, a bestselling author and entrepreneur, has made a reality in his hit Chronicles of the Nephilim Bible series. Across several series and dozens of books, Brian explores Biblical stories related to giants, Nephilim, and more, filling in the gaps with some fictional fun to keep the action flowing and the character development strong. He discusses his fascination with the supernatural realm and why he chooses to tell Biblically inspired fictional adventure stories. He also shares his take on how Satan influences secular culture, especially entertainment and publishing. “Stories shape the way you see the world,” he says, “whether you know it or not.”

TAKEAWAYS

If your soul is not captured by the Living God, you’re already seeing the world incorrectly

Don’t be afraid to discuss secular entertainment with your kids and teach them how to make wise decisions on what to engage in

Brian is also a filmmaker and screenwriter

Brian has authored three major series, as well as theological standalone thrillers and several non-fiction books
