New Zealand have beaten England 61-56 in the third and final dead-rubber Taini Jamison Trophy netball test to lose the series 2-1 in Invercargill.

The Silver Ferns lost the third quarter 18-15, but otherwise maintained a firm grip on the fixture.

Their next series is the Constellation Cup against Australia, starting in Wellington on October 20.

Daniel Hillier is in a three-way tie for third after the opening round of golf's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

Hillier's eagled the fifth and 14th holes on the St. Andrews Old course to card a bogey-free nine under-par 63 opening round.

He's two strokes off leader Darren Fichardt of South Africa, but is the highest ranked player to start the three-course event on the Old Course.
