When was the last time you said yes to yourself? Do you have a creative idea that is brewing? Want to try a new career but worried about what others may think? Never underestimate the power of a community that just wants you to say yes to yourself, to your ideas, to the person that you want to show up as in this world.
My guest today is Marli Williams, the founder and Head Camp Counselor at Camp Yes for Women. In September 2021, I showed up for me at Camp Yes and I think I have become a bit of a Camp yes evangelist. I want all women to experience events in their lives where women come together in community to support the power of yes.
On this episode Marli and I talk about:

Marli Williams is an international interactive keynote speaker, play activist, and joy instigator who has worked with organizations such as Nike, United Way, Doordash, along with many colleges and schools across the United States. She first fell in love with transformational leadership as a camp counselor when she was 19 years old. That experience led her to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Outdoor Education. She then spent five years as a wilderness guide working with inner city youth to empower them to build confidence, courage and clarity in who they are.
After getting her Master’s Degree in Education along with 15 years of leadership experience, Marli decided to give herself permission to be the “Professional Camp Counselor” she knew she was born to be. Marli is the founder and director of Camp YES!™, a transformational summer camp experience that has empowered hundreds of women say YES! to themselves. Marli’s ultimate mission is to help incredible people and organizations start taking bold action to be the leaders and changemakers they’ve always wanted to be through the power of play and cultivating joy everyday.

Want to start a side business from a sustainable angle? Have a career that you love but feel pulled when you recognize something missing from the market? This episode is for you as I interview Antje Gillard, the Founder of Null Refillery, a small scale refill business in Portland, OR.
Who is Antje? Founder of Null Refillery and avid refiller. Antje couldn't find a business in Portland that refilled home cleaning & body supplies, like the shop she discovered in Germany. Reducing single use plastics is the goal.
As currently practicing neurological physical therapist, Antje felt compelled to take a leap into the small business world, somewhere she never thought she would be.

Many of you have reached out and asked if you could pick my brain about starting a podcast, I figured it might be of interest to others in the audience. I think that all women should be sharing their stories, there is power in our voices, and we don’t often share them enough. I am also a huge advocate for women of a certain age sharing their stories, showing their faces, lighting up the world. So this episode is for anyone looking for the basics of creating a podcast. I could do a whole podcast season just on creating a podcast, but I wanted this as a podcast 101 quick overview more as possible inspiration to just get started.
If you are interested in pursuing a podcast but would like to work with me to get started let's set up a free coaching consultation by visiting thecreativepivot.com and clicking on the button to schedule that free session.

Erin's Bio:
There is an artistry to real estate. In the dynamic real estate industry, buyers and sellers need more than an adept salesperson. Erin specializes in making her client’s vision a reality.
Growing up in the industry, Erin understands firsthand the compassion, coaching, and savvy it takes to be a next-level realtor. With every client, she provides an exceptional client experience, using her diverse background so that your home buying and selling experiences are meaningful. With a corporate career in product management at industry-leading companies, Erin has excelled in various capacities, from providing top-notch customer service to managing multi-million dollar businesses. Just like her time in global product creation and marketing, real estate is a very complex process with many moving parts, so it is critical to have a partner who will help you through the entire home journey
When she is not guiding clients to their dream home sale or purchase, you’ll often find Erin with a camera in hand, diving into home design or exploring the great PNW outdoors.

This episode speaks to the importance of injecting your heart into everything you do. Your heart is connected to your purpose, having a purpose will lead to a successful business. Lack of heart or purpose for your work can lead to higher levels of burnout and overwhelm. Lesson for pivoters, always do your purpose driven work, fall in love with the work you are doing, feel the connection of your work to the community around you.

Darcy's Bio:
My name is Darcy Lee, I am the owner of the online greeting card shop, Hail the Snail Mail. I also have a subscription that sends 4 greeting cards and a gift curated by me each month. I owned a brick and mortar store for 20 years in San Francisco, when I closed it was clear that what was missed the most was the cards section. By committing myself and pivoting into this niche I have learned the value of writing via pen and paper. This pivot has been a gift that I never expected. There are many benefits from sending mail the old fashioned way, time away from screens and sounds, creative connection with loved ones, a reason to write on beautiful paper and the magic of placing a stamp on an envelope and knowing someone will read your words in a few days.

Our conversation on this episode of the podcast is a juicy one, self worth, and society's wiring to pay attention to the trauma. A salve for our anxiety is to seek out the beauty, wonder, and hope. We chat about if our self worth is trashed, how we can learn to be more inclusive, and that we, as humans, all long to be seen as able, capable, and successful.

As an international author, consultant, and speaker on inclusive leadership and healthy culture for boards and teams, I get to help people live incredible lives while continuing to learn. Honored to be a foster and adoption advocate, wife, and mom of daughters. On this episode of The Creative Pivot podcast I share two of the questions that I ask myself, and that I use with coaching clients to help determine what the next step looks like. How you choose the next step, and how you take action, not just making a decision on that step.
I would love to hear from you the listeners. Send me the topics that you would like me to cover on future episodes of The Creative Pivot. Burnout, overwhelm, career change, starting a business? Let me know by sending an email to [email protected].
