Today’s episode looks at the expectations we bring with us when we sit down to create and how we can learn to create alongside those expectations whether we meet them or not.

Today’s episode looks at how we all have our own creative cycles and how we can learn what each stage looks like for us and get familiar with all the ups and downs we face along the way and know that we can trust that we will move through each stage and reach the completion of the cycle so that we can repeat it again.

Today’s episode focuses on how we can misinterpret the discomfort we feel when we are in an unfamiliar territory and the unease we may experience as a signal to withdraw and retreat. When it comes to cultivating your art practice, this may be the very opposite of what you need to do.

In today’s episode I explore how detrimental comparing ourselves to others is on our creativity. And how the antidote to feeling insecure and making unfair comparisons to others is to focus in on your own creative power.

Today's episode is in celebration of my new book titled The Creative Unlearning and a new season of the podcast.
We cover the many areas where artists need to undertake an unlearning and share how as long as we are making art and creating, we will simultaneously be participating in an unlearning; so that we get to be the artists we choose to be and make the art we want to make.

This episode looks at the importance of knowing who you are before you pick up your phone to scroll where you will find a myriad of opinions on who you should be.
If I were to ask you what is stopping you from creating the art you wish to make, what would you tell me? Would you speak of all the ways the world prevents you from doing what you wish to do. Would you speak of all the objects and concepts outside of you from people, time, money and your environment that prevent you from making the art you so desire to make. At what point do you think you would consider turning away from all the external factors and taking the time to look within?

We decide there are deadlines and timelines for life events? Because we as humans have created such ideals. We have milestones hung all around our human existence. What happens when your life does not fit into a neat linear trajectory?
Artists by the very nature of what they do will never fit into a prescribed timeline. Art does not get created in this way and we as artists are not conduits of creativity on a scheduled timeline. This episode takes a look at how to navigate this if you are a creative.
It's always great to hear from you, so if you have any thoughts or any experiences with what was discussed in this episode, please feel free to email me and we can have a creative convo about it.
We can learn from an early age to become people pleasers, but we are not always aware of the side effects of it on our sense of selves and our creativity. In this weeks episode we take a look at how this shows up in our actions and behaviours.
