For the programmer as a problem solver, an ability that is a necessity is iterative learning, the paradigm of Specialization cannot be overemphasized, it is a great thing to understand a few programming languages and concepts, but beyond the basics it is imperative to have a strong knowledge base in particular areas and fields, specialization or becoming an expert in a field will not only enhance your economic value but it also makes you an authority…

  • Episode 005 - Consistently solving design needs makes you the designer
About today’s Guest – Ademola Badejo, He is an Amazing Designer, a Brand Consultant with Silky Creation, a Design Agency in Abuja, in this episode he speaks about the goal of design, the making of a designer, client attraction and so much more…

Design has a goal it must meet… Every element in your format must be channeled to that goal….
Design is a tool, it should have the user as the focal point of all decisions you make in your design…
That you use a software does not automatically make you a designer….
Your software applications are just tools, you are the wielder of the sword….

    My Take Aways:
It is when people start trusting you with work and you deliver consistently, that is when you can call yourself a designer… until you solve peoples’ design problems professionally you are not a designer…
Meeting the design need makes you the designer…
Get a knowledge base of the world of design, understand how design works in the business work, know the terms in your industry…
Go for training… there are tons of educational materials online
When you are in a community of like minded people, you are forced you to level up and become better…
“My mantra for client attraction is “One Good job deserves another…”
Good design is intuitive…. People might not be able to tell what works in the design… good design sells itself…
    Good work will attract referrals…
As a Creative your work will sell you…
Your desired clients’ are accustomed to a certain kind of lifestyle… they speak a certain kind of language, you can’t fix everybody’s design problems… get clear on the kind of audience you want to attract and design to suit that audience… be the kind of person your ideal client will want to work with… It will take a while, but keep at it and it will pay off…
    Worth thinking about….
Whatever is your core, be the best of whom you have been sent here to be…What do you want to offer to your world as a designer and creative person….Channel your energies to becoming the best at what you do…

    Take Aways from today’s episode:
We all have different learning styles, find out what works for you and stick to it
Even if you cannot do something now or you don’t have the skillset to do something, just have the believe that you can and know that the deciding factor is time, the effort and work you put in that stands you out
If you feel like you are not good enough, if you are always doubting yourself, just calm down and tell yourself that I may not be there yet but if I put in the time and work, “I will get There”
You have to do, to get better at any skill you just have to do… Execution is everything!
It doesn’t have to be perfect, just start, Imbibe the culture of doing, put in the time…
There are no dumb people, only dedicated people…

    My Take-Aways from today’s Episode
You are most likely going to excel in areas where you are passionate and have a natural interest in….
Its okay not to “get it” the first time…
The best way to learn, is to teach it
It is unnecessary to memorize syntaxes, just find out how and why

  • Episode 001 - Lets Go
In this very first episode of The Creative’s Chronicles, I talk about the reason for this podcast and what its intended to accomplish – “telling the stories of Creatives, their journey so far”; here we celebrating the victories, take notes from the lessons and experiences thus becoming so much more….
I talk about my believe in the uniqueness of our life’s journey and I believe there is always room for growth and improvement, we can always do better and become better. So Here is to that Designer, Developer, Photographer, Writer, Creative Professional or you with hopes of getting started in career as a Creative…
For starters, a little about me, I am a Graphic and Web Designer, I started out as a computer operator in a business centre and after a few years, I became a Secretary for a Construction Company, after 2 years working as a secretary I had this feeling that there’s got to be more than what I was doing… Opportunity presented itself in the form of an Internship role with a Design Agency, believe me it wasn’t an easy path at all, it included a take home pay that barely covered my transport fare, excluding feeding and other expenses, but I am indeed grateful to God for the opportunities and avenues for growth this internship role played in my journey as a Creative…
Your path might be different or similar but all have to make sacrifices and take risks, this in itself is a necessity,  and now I can boldly say I have no regrets taking this route… did I make mistakes? Plenty, Did I learn? Yes I did, Would I do things a little different, hmmm… probably, like the saying goes if we knew better we will do better… and I really do appreciate everyone that has made contributions in this journey, My Mom and Amazing siblings, Bosses like Ademola Badejo, The Amazing lessons from Chris Do and this Amazing Legend – The Sage “Segun Adebayo” The UX Legend, Boss Believe Stanley, Dayo Akindolani, wonderful co-workers and the Awesome Legends at D21.5 Century you all rock!
If you want to get started as a designer, outside learning the basics, a very crucial part of your career will be relationships… Value them, it matters… remember the golden rule, treat others as you want to be treated, it works…. believe me, Value people…
Next week on this Podcast will have on this show an Amazing Creative… who will be sharing with us his journey and experiences, so please tune in next week on Friday for another interesting Episode…
Don’t forget to leave your comments and feedback on this episode, I am very open to feedback…
I am going to leave links in the show notes to articles and resources that will help you on this path as a Creative….
Remember We are together in this journey and together we will become our best selves, I believe we have an enormous amount of opportunity to do better if we decide to push ourselves, sometimes you’ve just got to take that that role, do that task, take that opportunity, if it works out great, if not, well you learned, pick yourself up and keep on going, you deserve better, so become better…
