We have been approaching spirituality wrong. Spirituality is not about self-help, ego, or money. It is about building a reverent practice to your ancestors, spirits, and medicine.

Mainstream spirituality does not speak about the important of being in right relation to the spirit world. Instead, it focuses on certifications, regalia, and status.

Spirituality will demand humility. It requires sacrifice, shadow work, and to know our medicines. ⚡️

The traditional way is the opposite. It is about building reciprocity and relationship with the spirit world. Wisdom and healing is gained through proper communion instead of forceful domination and demanding. The spirit world merges with the physical and creates a deeper understanding of what it means to be a soul in form.

We must challenge our perceptions, actions, mindsets, and ways of life. The current map many of us are following is doing more harm than good.

So, what map do we follow now?

Your ancestors left behind ancient maps to navigate this world. They knew times like this were coming. They left behind maps for those who are ready to align with a new way of life.

After 7+ years of helping individuals name their shadows, there are 3 reoccurring struggles that everyone struggles with in the beginning. Here they are.

1.) Overwhelm. When doing shadow work correctly, you will experience overwhelm. This is actually a good indicator. It confirms that your shadow is receiving attention and being exposed deeper. It allows it to become triggered which allows us to address it.

2.) Perfectionism. Individuals begin to fixate on understanding their shadow perfectly. This is a coping mechanism to alleviate the overwhelm. Instead of truly addressing the shadow, they replace action for obsession on correctly labeling and diagnosing.

3.) Forget to learn their medicine. Shadow work with medicine work is self-deprecation. Your medicines are what equipped you with the proper tools to address your shadows. Your unique shadows will be healed by your unique medicines.

Let’s take a moment to ask ourselves what it means to heal?

Western rhetoric has infiltrated into the healing space. It has brought its ways of consumerism and perfectionism. It has created a beast of believing you must constantly be striving towards perfection. This is not healing; it’s consumerism.

Healing is finding the balance between your shadows and medicines. It is learning how to walk in the gray space. We will always have parts of us to work on; we are human. Instead of obsessing on what we need to fix, let’s focus on balancing ourselves within medicine and shadow.
