Last week, we talked about the KJV Only movement—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
This week, we pivot to the most extreme forms of the movement, exploring the question: what happens when we idolize the Bible? Is it even possible to idolize something that is altogether holy in and of itself?
How can we do a better job of taking the Bible at its own word and on its own terms, rather than forcing the Bible to comply with our definition of what the Bible can be? How can we make sure that the gospel is pre-eminent, even above our own approach to Scripture (as controversial as that may sound). We'll talk about all this and more as we unpack our own journeys through how to engage with Scripture honestly and with integrity.

Is the King James Bible the only true English Bible? Which English translation is the one you should be reading? How do Bibles get translated anyway?
We'll answer some of those questions. But mainly we just want to dive into the ideology that the King James Bible 1611 is the truest English Bible, whether that's a healthy position to hold, and how we can approach Scripture in a healthy way.
We'll also chase plenty of rabbits like we normally do, including birdwatching and Pokemon.

Christians sometimes don't have a great reputation. It doesn't take a whole lot of searching to find someone who has been hurt by the church, or more specifically, individuals within a church. Why does this happen? What does it say about Christianity if this experience is so common?
The habits we begin to form now and the decisions we make about how we treat others will greatly impact who we become when we are older. It's never too late to start being kind.

On today's episode, we're going to discuss the idea that a kind atheist is closer to God than a mean Christian. Is there any truth to that idea? What does the Bible say about it? What can we learn from pondering that?
How people operate in the world may not bring us any closer to salvation on our own, but it does change how a lost and dying world perceives Christians. Let's talk about what we can do better, and how we can change the narrative that Christians are just mean.
Here are some books we talked about in this episode:

What's one question we should absolutely avoid when we're studying the Bible? "What does that mean to you?" Let's not make the Bible about us, reading into the text what makes us feel better. We can't afford to sacrifice truth.
But also, maybe getting all riled up about that question is just that TheoBroTM rage about nothing. Maybe we can ask that question in an innocent way.
That said, what are the dangers of making the Bible about us? Well, we just might write new versions of classic hymns with lyrics that affirm us and our condition instead of draw us to God through the lens of truth.

In this episode of Critical Levitical, we dive into the question: Is Lent biblical? We explore Lent's meaning, its historical and religious roots, and whether it aligns with scripture.
Our discussion covers common misconceptions, the biblical basis (or lack thereof) for Lent, and how different Christian traditions approach it. We also debate the value of Lent as a spiritual discipline and its role in modern Christian practice.
If you've ever wondered what Lent is and how it fits into faith today, we'll break it down for you here. Plus, we'll talk about where McDonalds got the Filet-o-fish idea.

On this episode of Critical Levitical we're talking about our kids! Specifically, how sanctifying the process of parenting can be. Child-rearing is often the most practical application of our spiritual journey—we are forced to walk out the disciplines of following Jesus with our kids for their good.
Being a good parent means learning to be patient, selfless, caring, considerate, and so much more.
We'll also talk about what we can learn about preaching from Charles Spurgeon, where hermeneutics and homiletics collide, and what we can learn from the New Testament writers about extrapolating points from the text.
We'll finish with a brainstorm about Old Testament sacrifices and why God gave rules for them in the first place. Hosea 6:6 will be the focus here, as Jesus reminds us that sacrifices were never the goal, but intimacy with God and love for others is.

On this episode we're talking a whole lot about AI. The good, the bad, and the ugly. And then the just plain goofy. Should pastors use AI? If so, to what extent? What are the merits of AI for Christians? Where should Christians be careful using AI?
But before we get to that, we're going to talk about beards. Yes, beards. Are beards sinful?

How do we know God's will for our life? Wouldn't it be easier if He just sent an angel and laid it all out for us? Not so fast!
On this episode of Critical Levitical, we're talking about God's will, how to know it and how to follow it. It's easier than you might think! We'll also talk about whether excellence is an idol in the western church and discuss a healthy beard routine.

On this episode of Critical Levitical we're digging into a Jackie Hill Perry video about the dangers of narcissistic thinking and putting ourselves at the center of the equation. It damages relationships, limits our effectiveness, and makes us a god in our own image, rather than viewing ourselves as image-bearers of the one true God.
We'll take a look at a related video satire about worship that is solely centered on making us feel good and being happy. Is there a better way to write and utilize worship music?
Finally, we'll talk about New Years Resolutions, share some of our own, and discuss the value of simple, ordinary obedience.
