We love true crime - learning about it, thinking about motivations and realities. We also love laughing, relationships, warm conversations between friends, and righteous anger over the terrible things humans do to each other. All of this is why we love the Sinisterhood podcast. Hosted by Christie Brown and Heather McKinney, the pod covers crimes we've all heard of - your Jeanbenes, your Nexiums - and ones you haven't - like Gwen Shamblin and the Weighdown workshop. Told with research rigor, empathy, and humor - we cannot recommend this one highly enough. Find sinisterhood pod anywhere you find podcasts.

Named for Harriett Tubman, Harriet's Bookshop in Philadelphia celebrates women authors, women artists, and women activists. I found them in the COVID times, and so first began to shop from them online. The selection is great and the service is excellent, and by buying from them, you're supporting an independent, black-owned shop. Also, their curated lists on Bookshop dot com are just the best. Find them at harriettsbookshop.com.
The Good Doctors have more thoughts on plot-driven writing choices and the places this story is choosing to go as they discuss episode 5, 'An Unthinkable Fate.'

We live in such a fractured society, that only seems to be getting more so. Research shows that the way people change their minds about ideas and the way they shift their worldview to include others is through stories and relationships - not shame or statistics. In service to that idea, we run a series on YouTube called 'Welcome to My World'. It's an interview show where Dr. Kristen gets to talk to fascinating folks from all walks of life twice a week about something in their lives the rest of us should know more about. She's chatted about Japanese gaming culture, the universal law of attraction, what it means to be a ghostwriter, and more. Find the series on our youtube channel. We'll see you there.
Last Wednesday (the 4th), we hit a tragic milestone in the USA when it was announced that the millionth person died from COVID. We're going to hold space to talk about death, trauma, and the far-reaching impacts of this pandemic life.

We love podcasts. We love David Tennant. So when David Tennant decided to do a podcast, we were in like Flynn. David Tennant Does a Podcast With is catnip for The Good Doctors. Each episode features a chat with a different human - usually an actor, musician, or politician. David is kind, witty, and thoughtful, as we all knew he would be, and it makes him a fabulous interviewer. We're telling you about this podcast because it's an excellent empathy exercise. Empathy is all about asking questions and listening, it's a simple, yet difficult, place to start. These convos are perfect for the morning commute or short flight - a little learning, a little laughter, and away you go! You can find David Tennant Does a Podcast With on the internets and anywhere you get a podcast.
'In epsiode 4, the show branches dramatically from the books and leans fully into the love triangle approach. The Good Doctors discuss plot-driven vs. character-driven writing, and the screen time dedicated to heavy breathing in libraries.

Today's podcast is courtesy of my new favorite self-care supplier, Asutra. I found Asutra while skimming a listicle on Black women-owned businesses. Asutra is not only women-owned but women-led with Stephanie Morimoto as CEO and Venus Williams (yes, that Venus Williams) as part owner and Chief Brand Officer. I use their Lavender scented yoga mat detox cleaner and it's gorgeous. They have a whole range of products that are affordable, organic, and cruelty free. Learn more and happy shopping at asutra.com.
Take 2 on this conversation with our dear friend Dr. Nadine Thornhill. We'll be missing Dr. Kristen this time but Dr. Erin and Dr. Nadine will still have loads to talk about this fascinating movie!
