Monaco based artist, Johanna Rossi is todays guest on the podcast. She talks about how motherhood brought her back to art a a channel to explore her relationship with the world.

After an early career circling the creative industries Johanna found herself in recovery from health problems after the birth of her first child. She became a health coach but soon realised that this part of her journey was leaving her unfulfilled. She picked up her paintbrushes again and uses art to explore her feelings and her connection with those around her.

Now as a selling artist, her work has become figurative after a period of experimentation.

Rich and I met in 2014 and I invited him on the podcast to talk about collaboration and what it truly means for artists to use this as part of their creative practice.

We discuss how it differs from participation, and he says a true collaboration is one where all parties involved are bringing something to the table and each person is growing their own practice. It is not about having an idea and then bringing people on board to help you fulfil it, that would be a straightforward project. Collaboration by contrast is approaching the conversation with an openness to how the project could be, and then to successfully fulfil it, having parameters in place particularly around the time frame and outcomes.

Michael Petry is the guest on this episode of the podcast. He talks about his new book The Word is Art published by Thames and Hudson in 2018. Alongside each of his books, Michael produces an exhibition and in this episode he discusses the issues he is facing given the current situation with Brexit in the UK.

The political negotiations around Brexit appear to have excluded the creative industries much to Michael's frustration and he talks about the hold up of his own project as well as his peers. He explains how arts institutions on mainland Europe are unable to commit to exhibitions and projects due to the uncertainty caused by Brexit discussions.

The conversation then turns to language; language that is visual, written, spoken and with cultural context. The book covers 200 artists working across 60 languages and we discussed issues around putting the book together and in particular issues around translating art work and ideas.

I talk to Alex Gallagher in this episode. Alex is a collage artist based in the north of England who has gained much popularity through social media and found it an easy way to connect to galleries and find opportunities.

Alex is a huge fan of social media as it allows her to connect to international audiences. Through showing her work consistently online she is now showing with galleries in Australia, Japan and the US as well as the UK.

In late 2017 she was commissioned to create 4 murals for a cruise ship - a project she found both exciting and challenging.
