Season 1, Episode 9: Debi Jackson
Dan Sterenchuk and Tommy Estlund are honored to have as our guest, Debi Jackson. Debi Jackson, is a nationally-known advocate for transgender rights. She is the mother of a transgender daughter named Avery and frequently travels to speak about trans youth. She is best known for the description of herself in her first speech about her daughter, when she called herself "a conservative Southern Baptist Republican from Alabama."
Through her advocacy, she works with esteemed organizations such as PFLAG, the Human Rights Campaign, Gender Odyssey, and the Trevor Project. Her involvement with these organizations, as well as her personal connection to several thousand transgender adults and families with transgender children has enhanced her knowledge and understanding of trans-inclusivity needs and solutions, so much that she was awarded the 2016 Role Model Award by the National Education Association’s GLBT Caucus.
On the personal side, she is also happily married to her best friend, Tom, and together they also have a son named Anson. They reside in Kansas City with a plethora of pets including dogs, rabbits, chickens, and the recent addition of two hamsters.
